Not if you know what you're doing. $1800 in parts. Break out your welder and elbow grease. If you believe it is costly, I don't believe you have the means to move forward with such a modification.

Why would you get 4x4 if you don’t intend on ever using it?

Better question, why get rid of it if you already have it? There’s plenty of stuff on my truck that I don’t use and I’m not going to tear off because I don’t use it, maybe I’ll need it someday.

Fair point. If I do get another Tacoma I would get a 4x4 but only because I would intend on taking it off road.

To me, 4x4 is more of an, I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it type thing.

Just curious how often do you use it?

It snows a lot where I live so quite a bit. I don’t off-road much, I used to a lot, but lately just in the snow. I’d still get a 4x4 if I never used it though I think, just to have the option.

Edit: Here is my parking lot last winter. Cars were crashed all over the place. I hardly notice the ice in 4HI.

I use mine at least a couple times a month on the beach. I also use it a couple times a week when launching or loading the boat. Again, I’m another example of that extra set of drive wheels being useful in more ways than off road. For all intents and purposes, my Jeep might as well be a mall crawler if you’re judging it for its off road vs on road time.

Now a locked 2wd Prerunner will do a lot of things if you know how to drive it. I’ve veen really impressed by the prerunners with lockers on the trail

Yeah, mine has done pretty well in some places you wouldn’t expect it to
