Because it's 2018, and the manual trans is almost extinct.

Midsize 4x4 manual trans... Love this truck.

I bought my tacoma after owning a few first gen rav 4s, an 81 longbed pickup that i still love and own, a 95 3.0 slorunner, even on 31s and duratracs it took me everywhere i needed to go, still own a 2002 thundercloud 4runner sport on 33s which is an amazingly reliable truck, and looks damn good. Bought a 2018 DCSB old man tan tacoma and fuckin love it, but damn are mods expensive!

To stop my wife from constantly telling me I need to replace my '96 Tacoma with 412,000 miles on it before it leaves me stranded somewhere.
So I bought me a new 2018 Tacoma and still drive my '96.

Decided it was time to retire from a Cummins 2500, lol. It costs me 60% less to drive/maintain this truck!

I've owned 2 tacos and 2 FRS's before this one. Love the offroad capability, but didn't want a new jeep because... quality. (And still wanted a bed). My buddy's 4 year old JK already needs an engine swap at 102k miles! No thanks.

And c'mon... 3rd gens look amazing!

I sold my 1991 Toyota 2wd pick-up (mtn bike hauler) and traded in my evo for the Tacoma. Now I have something practical. :D

My 1998 Mazda B2500 cab+ with 178,000 miles was still running fine but couldn’t safely fit my two young kids and my wife and our bikes at the same time for camping and biking excursions. I liked aspects of the Ridgline, but its ride feeling made my wife feel seasick. We ended up with a V6 four-door SR5 in Barcelona Red.

    I love this truck.

I Pretty much I concur with the same reasoning and experiences similar to the OP.

I wanted a truck for my personal use and coming closer to 50 yrs of automotive industry experience under my belt, I could not find a better overall higher quality vehicle than what TOYOTA offers for the money, good job!

Having said that, they’re not perfect. But Mine has lived up to my expectations so far.
Case in point, just the other night we picked up a BMW X3 my son fell in love with and I was very disappointed with the quality and feel.
Definitely not what I was expecting based on all the hype. Lots of tech though.

As far as my truck goes though, I can say TOYOTA, good job!

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

A bunch of Meso Custom stuff.
I’m all about the Positivity! I’ve had a lil 86 Toyota PU for years. It has 577k+ on it; not all from me but a bunch. My DD was a Honda Element for a dozen years I put 220k on it. When I turned 55 yeah I’m an older member here on TW, I started a Tacoma Fund. About 19 months later, yeah I play the long, I found myself standing on the sidewalk with jumper cables in my hands, hood up on the Element, shoulder tappin HiSkool kids for a jump. I got the Element fired up and drove straight to the Toyota dealership. I was sitting in the truck ready to sign papers when it struck me that I should probably inform Wifey of my impending purchase. The convo went like this: Hey so I’m at Toyota sitting in a new truck and I about to sign papers. “ Is it a really big truck?” It’s a Toyota so midsize. “Does it have 4 doors?” Yep dual cab. “Does it have the really long bed?” Well it’s the longest I can get in a Toyota bu no not like a full size truck. “Well if it’s the one you want just buy it.” I love you, bye. At that point I turned off my phone. I love my Truck, and my Wife. We were comin home from a party last night and I said out loud, I love my Truck. “I’m glad you love yer truck, we are so lucky”.

I've always loved Toyota trucks but I've driven German cars for most of my life, VW, Audi and Porsche to be exact. I've wanted a 1st Gen for awhile now but it's was never practical for me and I already have a fun car so it never really made sense as a "Toy." I bought a Unlimted Rubicon a couple years ago and loved the around town driving experience but it was horrible on road trips, which didn't it didn't work for me so it was back to an Audi. A Coworker recently got a 2017 OR and it really caught my eye. After a couple of months of admiring it, he let me drive it and I immediately felt that with a little tweaking, this could be the vehicle I've been looking for! Two days later, I found the perfect Certified 2018 OR and a month in, I'm loving it! It's like the Rubicon and the A4 had a baby, which IS exactly what i was looking for. I've learned a lot from TW already, just did my suspension, wheels and tires and a few other bits, looking forward to few more subtle additions and many years of ownership!

So the reason I bought a Tacoma is I wanted a truck again .By far this is the best looking truck out there . The other reason I got this truck is the claims of reliability and resale value .I would of stayed in my dodge challenger r/t but just after 3 years of ownership the a/c went out in it twice in the same year . so I had enough with it and bought a Tacoma .

I got min late August this year because I really wanted one 5 years ago after an 18 wheel semi rear ended my civic but ended up getting a nissan versa. Fast forward 5 years later, the versa transmission goes out and decided that I'm going to get what i always wanted, a tacoma. I intentionally got the tacoma with only two seats and no jump seats because in the past five years I drove my versa, the rear doors were rarely opened. People keep asking me why I got the two seat and what if you need to take two or more people somewhere, I just tell them to take an uber or a bus.

I have owned 3 each 4Runners and pickup/Tacomas, and one Tundra. Over a million miles with only maintenance on wear items - not a single other failure.

Remarried and gave my wife my 2016 4Runner Trail, and needed another vehicle when my 10 year old escape died a couple weeks ago. Didn’t go 4Runner (didn’t want to be that guy w/ 2), so the 2019 Tacoma was an easy choice. Great truck.

Back in '97, was looking for a beater truck. Evaluated all sorts of Nissans, Ford and Chevys but mostly early '90s Toyota Pickups with 120k+ miles for $11k+. I noticed an ad-car in the paper - new '98 4x4 4cyl regular cab for $14k. The decision between new vs old truck for $3k more was easy. I got to the dealer first thing in the morning and waiting for them to open. I admit I was pretty indifferent to it other than needing a small truck, but after a few months of owning it I loved it! So maneuverable, compact and peppy 10-50mph made it a perfect city vehicle. Drove it 120k miles in 5 years. Then life happened and it started to not meet daily driver needs, bought a Honda and and the Taco got driven less and less and now it's a garage queen. Transmission in the Honda let go and the decision was easy - got a '16 Taco.

We're a two Taco family now. The '16 is such a contrast to the '98. So smooth, quiet and plush. With the OVTune it's a perfect companion for road trips. I love driving both for very different reasons.

Loved my 1st gen tundra and Dad’s 2nd gen (13 and 15) TRD sports.

Dad sold both trucks shortly after buying because he is cheap and rather have more money in his 401k than sitting in his driveway.

Bought the 3rd gen to make him jealous

I have always wanted a truck and Toyota's are extremely popular where I come from (Down Underland). I'm super excited to get into off-roading. My mates back home were really into that but I moved here before I started.

I went with the Tacoma because it offered the manual transmission and they look amazing. I went with the 2018 because the monthly payment was $80 less than a 2019 due to incentives and they're basically the same vehicle. So I got meself a 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road Double Cab Short Bed in the 6 Speed Manual Transmission. I went with the Cement colour because I love the way it looks.

Now I just need to accessorise it with my desired accessories (mostly ARB) and my OME BP-51's. Ooooh boy, money pit!
