I'm not married to the OEM one in any way, I just do think it looks nice and would provide better protection for my fumoto valve than I have now.

Because I'm super bored and this thread ultimately means nothing.

    Old car story #1: (1993-1995)

My first was a '65 Beetle that we restored. That was a fun project, but I didn't really yet know how to drive a stick yet. I had a job interview at K-Mart and I grinded the shit out of the gears all the way there because I didn't know proper clutch engagement. I got very acquainted with Bondo and NOPI during that time. Painted it from white to Viper GTS blue. Had it for about four months in running condition before all my friends and I in high school got really into muscle cars.

Unfortunately, no pictures. I'd definitely own one again as a project/city car.

I'm not sure as I believe he has another model for third gen's now. I do like the fact it's steel tho.

    Old car story #2: (1995-1996)

My friends were really starting to get into muscle cars. This was right about their nadir, just before they started going back up in price. One friend had a '70 Challenger in Plum Crazy. 440 Six Pack. Another friend a 1969 Chevelle 302. Another a 1969 Boss 429. Another a 1968 442. Some of the other kids were also getting into performance cars like a SHO Taurus, 1993 Fastback 5.0, etc.

So I asked my dad to look into getting a muscle car. He came home with this one day.

A 1976 Chevrolet El Camino. 350 with a TH350. Edlebrock intake and four barrel. 4.10 gears and 315 BFGs out back. Captains chairs and a Z28 steering wheel. Slow as all fuck. But it was so very cool. It was my first truck, and only one until this year. Zero room to store anything inside, which is the genesis of my dislike for single cabs. Remember one day driving to school and I hydroplaned and went over a median, putting a good dent in the back wheel. That, along with the carb started getting kind of screwy, and I had learned in the interim to drive a stick shift...so, we sold it to some guy who was too fat to even drive it home, so I did it for him. I wish I could find the VIN to it so I could see if it still exists somewhere. With the aftermarket sunroof, I'd bet it fell into disrepair some time back and was scrapped. But if it still existed, I would buy it back.

The last automatic I would drive on a daily basis for over twenty years.

Nice El Camino. I had a 1979 Toronado that color.

Stacked headlights are the hottest thing on a car.

I did forget about the kid at Jiffy Lube that had a '66 GTO. Pollen yellow. We were all super jealous in the spring.

Simple thing, but I think I like it. Not the easiest process to add film to a domed object, but it mostly came out well.

Think I'm going to go back and remove the lenses and reapply at least the passenger one.

my wife's first car was also a 65 Beetle, and she couldn't drive it well being her first car and MT, no synchros too... she hit a patch of wet on a cold day and lost the rear, totaled the car.

so she got a 70 Chevelle SS. her dad had his mechanic buddy detune it so it would barely go. lol

later in life i also built this. 70 LeMans Sport with a Chevy BB468ci on a full road race suspension and all kinds of stuff. it caught on fire a few times, that kind of thing. it was like a big kart. i liked the drive style so much i built my Tacoma into another version of a big kart.

I have yet to find a Cav Blue with the FN FX Pro/SEMA in bronze, but I think it is my primary choice. Gunmetal #2, but I’m not planning to do anything wild with the vehicle and I’ve never taken a risk with wheels before. Hell, I’ve only ever changed off stock wheels once, the Jeep.

The question becomes 17x7 or 17x8. It would be nice to keep the stock tires for now until they wear out, spread out the cost a bit. 265/65 I think. Have to also look at offsets and etc.

Long term plan is 2-3” lift and slightly meaty tires, nothing wild.

I have the 17x7 SEMAs with 265/70x17 KO2s. From what I've read those are the biggest tires recommended for that size rim. I don't plan on going any larger, especially since going up a bit from the stock 265/70x16 reduced gas mileage. I have TRD Pro suspension on my 2nd gen OR which raised the front about 1-1/2" and this size tire looks good. That said, your 3rd gen is about 1" higher than my 2nd gen on its stock suspension so if you lift it 2"-3" it won't fill in the wheel wells as much if that's important. If you're going with anything larger than the 265/70s you may want the 8" rim, but you'll want to look into what the offset is. The SEMA rims bumped the stance out a bit on mine and I think it looks good. I also put on some RokBlokz mud flaps to cover the increased offset.

That one inch difference is what is making it difficult to decide. Opens up some options down the road. I could possibly do 275/70, but that might put me to an E load. The offset on the FN FX Pro is 0. I'm also not chasing a set number on tire width and lift height. Skinnier might be fine.

Another aspect is that I could go pick these up any time, ordering the FN FX seems to be a bit cloak and dagger, I'm assuming due to potential legal issues. Some have reported Discount Tire not wanting to install the FX due to lack of thread purchase as well, and I love me some DT.

The OEM one is in #29, but I'll repost here:

The FN FX Pro is basically the same wheel with a little more dish.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ead-and-info-all-models.414804/#post-11826277

I'm dead set on this style wheel, just trying to decide which manufacturer and which color. Other choices are gunmetal, and matte black. Plenty of people running the latter finish with Cavalry Blue, and a few people running Cav Blue and bronze, just not this particular style.

I did not know this. Thanks for asking!

At the time I bought my wheels, someone had posted their local DT wouldn't mount any larger than the tires I'm running, which is OK with me, but it's good to have options!
BTW, they mounted E the first time by mistake, even though I instructed C, and it rode like crap. I definitely recommend the lighter tires.
