Loved my samurai. A word of caution. I had an 87 with an electronic carburator. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but it is true. Only year it was done. 88 has efi. I had quite a few stalling, rough running, or refusal to start issues. Major problem was no one trained to work on them. Hard to get them over 55 unless going downhill, but nice little trail rig

After sinking in 8K in offroad mods i've realized that it'll never crawl as good as a shorter body offroad rig. Have you thought about getting a SXS?

    Samurai's are AWESOME!!!
I built this for my wife. 1.6L built motor, geared and locked. It never broke, was like driving a go kart. It was a hell of alot of fun.

It was, would roll down the hwy at 80+ mph in 5th gear. Then you could drop it it 4lo and just crawl all day long, fill up and head back home. I sold it on Ebay for a stupid amount of money. Went into a bid war. The wife still misses it today.

I have but I could have a TJ on Tons and 40s for the kind of SXS I would want.

Are you looking for a dedicated crawling machine to rock crawl for no other reason than rock crawl? The Tacoma will never be that vehicle.

If you want a vehicle that will get you to the trail reliably at highway speed, then do some fun wheeling while fully loaded with camping gear, camp for a week, then carry the whole family home. That’s a Tacoma!

Sounds like you need to build a buggy and use the Tacoma to trailer it to bash rocks when you feel the need.

That is so bitchen. People clown on these things, but I can't tell how many times I was on the trail and either squeezed through trees or climbed over a giant boulder like a spider and waited for my friends to find a way around.

If I wanted a serious rock crawler, I wouldn't have bought a pickup truck. just too long, no matter how you cut it!

But I wanted an Off Road pickup, that was built right out of the box, for my needs. Only thing missing was a front locker and bigger/better tires.....

    So ya, I voted Samurai

Thanks! The guy rolled it but it’s all cosmetic damage and it came with a new windshield frame. Has a 6” SPOA on it and just ordered the YJ spring kit. Ready to go!
