When it comes to hulking vehicles, few have earned more diehard fans over the years than the Toyota Land Cruiser. And now, nearly 70 years after its debut, FJ Company is giving the vehicle’s adherents the chance to get their hands on authentic, classic examples of what is arguably the Japanese automaker’s most revered model.

The brainchild of brothers Nelson and Juan Diego Calle, FJ Company is dedicated to preserving the essence of the decades-old SUV. The biggest step in this mission, is the custom-made G40, a classic Land Cruiser, that’s been fully rebuilt restored and upgraded with contemporary tech.
Each of FJ Company’s handcrafted G40s is built on the chassis of either an FJ40 or FJ43 Land Cruiser dating back to 1970 to 1983. From there, its original steel body is restored and rebuilt and the whole package is topped with either a custom-made soft-top or an optional hard-top. Underneath the hood, you’ll find a 4.0-liter Toyota 1GRE-FE V6 engine which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

But while the G40 looks and acts the part, what really sets it apart from other restored Land Cruisers are the modern-day creature comforts FJ Company has equipped it with. These up-to-date flourishes include custom upholstered seats, a dash-integrated air conditioner and heater system, a new digital cluster, LED interior lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled sound system.

And now, FJ Company has reached an agreement with Canepa Group Inc. under which Canepa will serve as FJ’s exclusive dealer in California. While Canepa is not a dealership per se, the restoration house and museum is a car enthusiast’s paradise, making the partnership a natural fit.

“The FJ Company’s enthusiasm and love for the classic Land Cruisers shows in each and every build they do, with extraordinary craftsmanship, unparalleled quality, and a meticulous attention to detail,” Canepa founder Bruce Canepa said in a press release. “Their Signature G43-S is the top-of-the-line ride for anyone looking for a vintage 4×4 experience but who doesn’t want to compromise modern-day comforts and performance, having the best of both worlds.”

FJ Company’s Heritage G40 starts at $180,000, while the Expedition G40 begins at $200,000 and the top of the line Signature G40-S at $220,000. But be ready to wait, with FJ Company only making 30 units a year, and each taking six months to build, there’s already a 12- to 18-month-long wait for each G40.

Jesus that makes the G Wagen cheap.:eek: I like them old Toyotas but I think I would go for the Wagen if money is no object.:D:D

These New Mercedes G-Wagen Restorations Celebrate the Beloved SUV’s 40th Anniversary
The SUV has won over Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts with its ability to conquer the world’s most inhospitable terrains in style.

One of the world’s most trusted sports utility vehicles, and one of Mercedes-Benz’s most successful models, the G Wagen, turns 40 this year. To celebrate this momentous milestone, custom shop Expedition Motor Company is launching a new series of restorations of the beloved SUV.

“The Expedition Motor Company G-Wagen trucks feature military durability and timeless design, but the best part is that these trucks are so versatile,” founder Alex Levin said. “A Wolf can easily tackle the world’s harshest terrain, but looks just as sharp at a vacation home cruising the beach or on an alpine mountain road.”

The first in the series is the “Silver Wolf,” a 1992 Mojave Silver 250GD. The product of over one thousand hours of hand restoration, the truck was completely stripped down before having its frame finished in anti-corrosive coating and painted matte black. Additionally, all-new fuel and brakes were installed, while the axles, brake calipers and suspension were all upgraded. Most striking of all, though, is the work done to its cabrio body. Like the frame, it was completely stripped down before being corrosion-proofed and painted. It also comes with a black soft-top and matching bikini top.

Since its introduction in 1979, the G-Wagen—short for Geländewagen, literally “cross country vehicle” in German—has won over Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts with its unparalleled ability to conquer the world’s most inhospitable roads in style. As a way of paying tribute to a vehicle renowned for its iconic boxy shape and high performance, Expedition Motor Company has announced it will produce a limited run of the ex-military 250GD, a two-door, convertible truck nicknamed the “Wolf.”

Underneath the utility vehicle’s hood is an ultra-durable OM602 2.5-liter inline-five diesel engine that’s been fully cleaned and rebuilt. Its radiator has also been re-cored, while the 711.7 five-speed manual transmission has been disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt into like-new condition. The SUV has also been outfitted with some new tech, such as a high-efficiency LED light system, and had its military-grade 24-volt electrical system replaced with a consumer-friendly 12-volt system.

Expedition Motor Company’s restored 40th anniversary 250GD G-Wagens start at $90,000. Though the company specializes in convertible variants of the SUV, it can source hard-tops as well. Check out more photos of the “Silver Wolf” below:

"Each of FJ Company’s handcrafted G40s is built on the chassis of either an FJ40 or FJ43 Land Cruiser dating back to 1970 to 1983"

Built on a 60's to 70's technology frame, uses the engine from an FJ Cruiser and a 5 speed manual (instead of the FJ's 6 speed), and is updated with modern technology like heat and A/C in the dash.

So basically ~$200K for what is essentially a less ugly yet ultimately inferior version of the FJ Cruiser?
