They are trying to Ban Pit Bulls

I can honestly say that I have never met a pit bull in person that was vicious. I have gone to people's houses and had dogs bark and act like they would eat me but once the owner came outside the dogs acted like they knew me forever. Went to petsmart last night with Bailey, had a lady there tell me that her mini pincher's mom got mauled by a big dog so now the whole family is scared of big dogs. So I got Bailey to sit and wait while they passed, the father just seemed to tolerate the moms insanity, and nodded as he walked by.

 

its already illegal to own one here in Miami Dade County, def sure its from douche bag owners in the past.

 

people forget 2 things

1) massive inbreeding causes brain abnormalities and causes a dog to go nuts for no reason sometimes
2) a dog will do what you train it to. pit bulls are not vicious by nature. However, they are an extremely loyal dog so they will do whatever it takes to please their owner, even if it means fighting.

dog fighters picked up on this and exploited it. There are much more violent dogs than pits.

My sister has a couple pits and they are very gentle. The one on the bottom will roll over on her back when people come over.

 

same applies to the rott, this dog has the same misinterpretation of being vicious. but these dogs are great family dogs!

 

German Shepherds, Dobermans, and Rotts were trained to guard things, thus they will attack people that are intruding. Nothing wrong with that, its their job. Pit Bulls are mostly Animal aggressive, they are usually horrible at guarding the home when left alone, however they will protect their people. I just don't think it is right to try and apply human laws to an animal. A dog with a responsible owner is comparable to a responsible gun owner.

 

I agree with all of the above. Although my older Pit is a superior guard dog.

seems like a law like that would have to have a grandfather clause or something. you cant expect people who have raised a pit from a pup to get rid of their dog or move. those are terrible choices. I have no problem with putting down violent dogs but i've known a few pits and they are sweet as hell as long as they are raised in the right home, just like any dog. i've also known of generally "sweet" breeds to be hell raisers. it all comes back to the owner, not the dog

 

it sucks going to the pound and seeing 3/4's of the place filled with pitbulls.

worthless owners let the dogs die.

 

Went to the Police jury meeting. It went well they were more informed than I expected, they shot down the ban so our pups are safe.

+1 A grandfather clause would almost certainly apply in a situation like this

A nearby town had a problem with a man who was raising a tiger on his property and is dead set on legislating a ban. Although they will probably succeed in doing so, he will be grandfathered regardless of their decision.




Anyways, I'm glad to see you're current and future dogs are safe from the Gestapos!

on a side note, i brought my dog to work the last couple days. she (dumb) secretary said "what mix is she". I said "looks like mostly pit and collie". To which she goes on how she is too cute looking and friendly to be a pit

 

dumbass... some people...

 

Instead of banning the dogs, they should ban the people who abuse them to a deserted island.
