Listen glad your alright. Now I’ll tell you what I did when I was in exactly in the position you are in now. First thing if you have any pain at all go to the dr ASAP get it documented in relation to the auto accident. Now for the truck I’m assuming you leased from a Toyota dealer with a Toyota lease mine was a Mazda lease from a Mazda dealer. Make sure the truck goes back to the exact dealer who leased you the vehicle. Have them take control of every aspect of the truck being repaired with ALL oem parts. This way you are protected on your lease since the leasing dealer did all repairs it will not come back on you when you turn the truck back in and you will turn it in. Demand from said leasing dealer that you get a equivalent rental vehicle but BEFORE making said demand read your insurance to see what you are entitled to. It’s a shit sandwich for sure but YOU will get nothing extra on the repair and they won’t take the vehicle back early unless you pay the penalty on the lease turn in. Just get on the good side of the dealership right at the get go and check on where the repairs are at every week or so. Don’t be that guy this is a simple fix drive turn in lease situation now. The only extra you can expect is if you are hurt at that point get a lawyer and get their advice. Since what kind of insurance you have will determine if there is an unexpected payday in your future. I also live in a no fault state this is what I did after I was tboned by an F250 while I was in a Mazda 6. He destroyed the car almost killed me I was amazed that they fixed the damn thing I had the car like 3 months in on a 3 year lease. I drove that thing after repair till the end of the lease. I took it back to the leasing dealership who also repaired it handed them the keys and walked away not owing them anything. Keep in mind the truck repair and your injury’s if any are 2 separate things and need to be handled that way. Good luck brother.

No sarcasm - it's just a shitty predicament that you got thrown into. Probably just my usual poor choice of words.

Thank you so much for the awesome advice. I’m going to call them and seee what’s up. I don’t want to drive the truck as I don’t have a left break light or left head light.

Yea don’t drive it check your insurance about what your allowance is for a rental go from there. Get the rental from the dealership you have fixing the truck try to keep it all under one umbrella the dealership will give you more wiggle room if they are handling the truck.

OP step away from the posts here call your insurance company tomorrow or tonight if you haven’t all ready. You will get a rental they will handle it and fix it that’s what you pay for. Have your adjuster address any questions you have.

I called today to file. Tomorrow the claim rep is going to call me to continue the case, and see what happens from there. Definitely going to get a rental from them. Going to make sure that I do everything through Toyota and oem. Hopefully they’ll let it slide as a total loss. I also need to figure out the doctor situation. I ain’t no b*tch but I do have some knee pain and shoulder pain.

It's thoughts like this that is one of the things wrong.
How about... he waits to see what their insurance does?
How about being honest and treating people like you wish to be treated?

Foreign concept for some but the high road is worth it in the end.

    Lastly, Karma is a bitch.

    Evening gang,

Glad you’re ok. Wow is all I can say and hope I can help here. I worked auto claims since ‘97. I worked S. Florida, and managed a large carrier. No names mentioned.

First, it is ok he reported to his company. He is not at fault. It is not chargeable and will not affect his rates. I would try to contact the at fault parties insurance first though. Here is another concern, do we know who the at fault party is? Each parties insurance may deny upfront or claim they need time to investigate which leaves the OP hanging. There is also a issue of coverage. The person at fault will owe a lot in damages. State minimum is 10k.

As for aftermarket parts. It is a lease.OP can’t rebuild with skid plates, bull bars, all the fun stuff. (Trust me. I just leased and did the same. I am buying mine since I did not plan on modding it out so much). Hi lease has gap. It goes to any shop, as long as it is reputable and has a warranty when OP returns it there is no issues. If there is an issue he takes the truck back to repair shop for warranty repair.

As for the truck being a total, OP cannot demand. They may be able to total it on salvage. So if the cost of repairs is more than the value of the vehicle after a deduction for what they get could back in salvage then they can total. There is something going on upfront with some sway to the lower structure. It may total with salvage

Hope that takes some of the guessing and crazy theories away

Hey glad to hear from you with the knowledge you have and being from south Florida. Thanks for your concern as well. I know the whole aftermarket situation is iffy and not at all my concern at the moment. How does the whole total on salvage work ? I do not understand that concept yet. I have full coverage on the truck as it is lease and I know damages will be covered. I know who was at fault and yes I know I know should both the other parties instances im going to do it tomorrow.

Just jumped on but I agree with this. My crappy 20-year old Miata was totaled 15 years ago. It was repaired so well that you can't tell there was damage and gets race alignments done with no problems. That was on a unibody that sustained actual damage to the radiator support, body/frame/rails, and subframe. For comparison, some non-accident Miatas can't reach the race alignment specs I use due to worn bushings... These Tacos have actual (ladder?) frames, it can be fixed properly. Most shops are capable of this, but some are not; the end product is really up to the skill of the shop/tech. I suppose a shop can never reach "spec" numbers if you are trying to get every panel back within 0.01 mm of factory, but if it doesn't hinder function, looks, or safety, why care?

I'm very confused with where these posts about a "fat paycheck" are coming from. You are entitled to have the damage caused by the other party fixed and that's pretty much it. The only thing I can think of is emotional distress and the only time I have ever seen that work was in a case where a disgruntled employee repetitively ran over a mother in front of her kid.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, but my point was that it can be fixed properly. I think too many people get caught up on "it was in an accident, it'll never be the same" instead of just enjoying the car. Hopefully, everything gets sorted out for the best, good luck!

I do align with your view point. It’s just a damn car and I should just enjoy it. But knowing myself, I’m paying for something which I’m no longer paying for in the condition I received it in.

If you know the at fault party, I would call them now. A claim may be set up if the owners car was not drive -able . They may have already accepted liability. If they are a larger company they are open. No reason to wait to gather info
