a teen going 60mph in a 15mph zone wrecked into my yard, destroying my 2007 TRD Tacoma, garbage shed, and damaging the bumper on our Subaru Forester.

I had just finished overhauling the entire truck, repairing any rust on the frame, replacing the bumper, suspension, front end, etc.

hoping it can be saved even if it takes replacing the frame and doors. the cab "shape" is pretty much untouched other than the corner, but the rear door won't open from being smushed.

(the crying teen in the photo is the drunk moron who decided going 60mph in a neighborhood full of kids was a great idea... he was more worried about his own car... he tried to flee but his car was stuck under my wife's car)

he smelled of booze and cigarettes and was only 17 and the cops *refused* to give him a field sobriety test. called his mom for him and she came to get him and left the scene. I didn't even get the insurance info.

    small town life.

Man, that sucks. I am glad it wasn't worse (nobody died) but I hope you're in a state that does more than a slap on the wrist for this kind of stuff. That dipshit needs consequences so the lesson sinks in.

As for the truck, it may never drive the same. Even if you repair it all it will likely be just a bit off. Start gathering all the receipts for the mods and work that's been done. Hit his insurance with all of it. Given that the Hyundai is a newer design I am assuming he has insurance.

if I end up letting it go I'll def try to get what I can off of it since it'll just be going to a scrap yard. I'm thinking since most of the damage was to the bed it should be fine given a frame repair/replacement. but we'll see.

Did they have a reason for refusing a field sobriety?

I feel your frustration on this. Years ago my wife was t boned buy a drunk driver as he pull out of a bar. He walked away from the scene back into the bar. When the cop show up, he wouldn’t give a sobriety test nor arrest for DUI, because we couldn’t prove he was drunk before he left the scene and went back into the bar…

    That's frustrating.

Did you get pics through the windows of his car? It's in public view and if there was an open container you can give all that to your insurance or lawyer.

Should have let him run, after snapping his pic. Then lots of pics of the car and it's plate/VIN. Give it to your insurance and then they can pursue his insurance for it.

did they at least make an incident or accident report? In our situation he didn’t want to. I was almost speechless. After I wrote down his name, badge and car/unit number he agreed.

Sounds like his family possibly has some law enforcement/political connection. It does happen, and it's a bitch to fight. Lawyer up and investigate.
Typical entitled POS most likely. He'll eventually get away with murder if not held accountable for his actions. Good luck.

If you don't want to be called out for scumbag behavior, don't commit scumbag behavior.

As grandpa used to say "don't drag your feelings out behind you and I won't step on them."

No bodyshop needed, its dead Jim....
    Thats going to total....
Your insurance company will direct you to upload some pics, they may send an adjuster to you since its dead in the water....
Wrecked your shed, your truck, wife's car, hope he's not under-insured, but my guess is this will be all sorts of drama...

Body-work / insurance work is outrageous these day & that damage to just the truck will easily exceed $10k....
Rear diff shifted back, driveshaft sitting on the deck, my guess is likely frame tweaked...
