The likelihood he has parents willing to hold him accountable is, unfortunately, unlikely given his behavior after the first 17 years of “parenting”…

he only had temp tags, which insurance can't look up

yes but they directed me to this bs 3rd party website which doesn't show me any results for the report. I called the local PD and they said the "records girl" isn't in until next week. my insurance said they can investigate and demand records but it takes 3-5 weeks. I had to pay for a rental out of my own pocket.

it's this. they knew his mom and called her. I don't know who she is but she may be on city council or something.

I'm going to push them to replace the frame and bed and fix the damage to the body if it isn't bent up on the inside. don't care what it costs his insurance or his parents, not my problem. already called a lawyer.

he was a total asshole and would not chill out, kept crying about how he's going to be late for work and he just got his car. I was like dude you could have literally killed my children if we were loading them into the car as you flew through here at 60mph go f**k yourself. cops told him he's lucky he missed the utility pole or he'd be dead, he was like "nah I'd be ok." total moron. can't blame parents for everything but I'm 100% sure my kids will never do something this crazy.

Too bad you don’t live in Louisiana. You could sue for injuries you can’t even prove. That’s why we have sky high rates.

dont think you have the option of "pushing"
When the repair exceeds value, they total it & dont repair,
you can buy back & do whatever you want...

the insurance can offer me $1 and say that's the value - I don't have to accept what the asshole kid's insurance company wants to try to lowball me with.

they are going to fix it or replace it with the same thing. I already got a lawyer. my insurance (geico) is basically worthless. wouldn't even get me a rental.

I'd look into what legal recourse one would have against the PD for not doing field sobriety test..either way you're probably looking at a decent settlement....it will just take ages and ages to get done

@saturn Sucks to see this happen and unless the kid wakes up, he will wind up in prison or dead. Hope the 17 y/o finds a way to get his head screwed on more straight...

Just curious, I don't have rental coverage on my lizard policy. Did you have that coverage and they still declined?

If that's the case I wish you the best of luck especially in a small town.

PD desecration on sobriety tests I'm afraid and I'd be willing to bet the police report already says "showed no sign of impairment".

Oh man that would make this interesting. Sorry about the truck that is really frustrating, and also the whole thing is scary if anyone happened to be standing in the yard. keep us in the loop though we are on your side

What small town in Jersey? I grew up there and the cops in my small town stopped giving passes circa 2000. You gotta be way up north for that shit to still fly.

    Ringwood, on the NY border.

yes but since the car was unoccupied (was hit while parked) they are saying it doesn't cover it (wtf) so it sounds like I'm getting a new truck AND a new insurance company.
