That really sucks man. Someone had observed you at one point loading guns and followed you or remembered you/your truck from an earlier sighting. I can’t see someone trying to pry open a locked gate in a Lowe’s parking lot just to take a look without having a goal. At least they didn’t steal your steel on top of destroying your shit. People are the worst. You should be able to do as you please to a thief if you catch them in the act.

The key point is catch them. A determined thief is gonna get your stuff if they want it. They have 24/7 to think about getting it, while you actually have a life. Like going into Lowe’s to get some tools or something. Or sleeping.

A friend had his Audi A6 stolen while he was on vacay. They broke into his garage and loaded it onto a flatbed. All in 15” probably, without alerting the neighbors. (I don’t know about an alarm system, but I bet he has one now.)

Anyway, I think carrying expensive stuff under a tonneau cover is the problem here, sad to say. That’s like a thief magnet. I have an open bed, and vagrants can see that there’s nothing of value obvious in my truck cab. Not worth their time to break a window just in case I have something in the glove compartment or middle storage unit or under the seats.

Since I posted this, I will probably have a break-in tomorrow...

You're absolutely correct. But in my defense, I didn't know we were reaching back half a century

While my dad didn't recylce back then, he did repurpose. He'd pour it along the fence line to kill weeds. Again, were talking 50 years ago. :hattip:

I think were missing the real question here, do you live in the ghetto/shady area? I live in a nice city......no shady cats out here breaking my glass window, if you have insurance file it, just remove the tonneau cover however you spell it and the tailgate for now dor your truck wont be an eyesore

I live in Denver NC. I wouldn’t say it is shady but it’s probably not the best.

Up here in the north, most shops use heaters that burn waste oil to keep the shops warm in the winter. So most shops take the oil you have for free to keep the heat on.

EXACTLY!! While I don’t leave my truck unlocked, the windows are not tinted and I leave the truck 100% clean at all times. They brake in, they get baby wipes and a car seat. Literally nothing else left in the truck
