They look worn, but...

The factory Dunlop AT20's on my '09 looked like they were getting worn, and I put about 25,000 miles a year on my truck so I figured I might be six or eight months from replacement. So I went to get an estimate just to see what I'd be looking at for a set of decent tires. Hankook Dynapro AS, quoted at about $127/tire. Not bad. Although I do lean toward the Dynapro ATM.

Anyway, tire guy says "it'll be a long time before you need tires". Hmm...I pull out my tread depth gauge, and I see this:

Spare tire (never on the ground, same tire): 11/32 on all grooves.

    Average in-service tire groove: 8/32.

Not nearly as worn as I thought...at 24,000 miles.
