They put in 0W-20 (SYN)- when I always get 5W-30 (Conventional) 2005 Tacoma- Is this a major issue?

the lower the winter rating the better. Less strain on start up and lower oil pressure in the cold.

10w30 is basically obsolete because of this .

    Conventional 10w30 is almost nonexistent.
All I can find locally is SynBlend.
10w30 is the same way, it’s ok. But I’m paying $6 a quart for lawn mower oi?
Long gone are the days of change oil in a lawn mower for under $20.

I bet if you used 0w20 and somehow the engine breaks down, Toyota would void your warranty. I would ask them to change to what the engine requires.

He's got a 2005 so I don't think the warranty is an issue.

I would insist that they put in exactly what is spelled out in the owners manual or provide me with the documentation where it was changed.

I'm aware of that. My point was if that were to happen, he would probably be denied. So if that's not acceptable then he shouldn't let this be acceptable as well.

Odd to me that 0w20 is recommended for fj and 4runner but 5w30 for tacoma and tundra.

Just went through this at work, I thought I was getting hosed at 4.50/liter

Don't lawnmowers prefer 30 weight straight oil?

I ran my cars syn 5w30 in a mower once and it blew up, so I'm stupid careful now.

What’s your oil cap have printed on it? 5w30 make the put that in it. What’s the manual recommended? Have them change it to the correct viscosity.

All my engines with the Honda gx270 call for 10w30. Log splitter and power washer both. Kubota is also 10w30

While I agree that 0w20 will do no harm, the single VVT-i 1GR was never back spec'd for it. The dual VVT-i 1GR was.....but it's also a different animal aside from the 60° block and bore. I would personally want 5w30 in mine. But 5k miles on 0w20 will hurt nothing

I believe most lawnmowers called for straight 30 weight because you’re not mowing lawn in the winter :)

I remember being a little shit cranking that handle over and over watching the gears & oil. Little did I know at the time it was a closer representation to what goes on inside my head.

Some. My toro lawnmower with a Kawasaki engine says it can take 10w-30 or SAE30. You also can't run motor oil on all lawnmowers as the additives that they have can harm some lawnmowers.
