Ill definitely be sticking with a first gen. I wonder why toyota hasnt fixed the frame problem, but im glad theyre sticking by their product. I was looking at some new tacos and the economy and payload have gone down the tubes, I know there is a bigger six cylinder but the 2.7's have worse economy, what is toyota doing? No offense to the 2nd gen guys they look sick but no doubt the 1st gen are the work trucks of the group.

UPDATE:I literally just got off the phone, toyota is offering me $12,757.50. considering I bought it for 8,000 and change I will definally be accepting. I get my check next week! Im really pumped! Toyota absolutly RULES. Ford Chevy or Dodge even Nissan wouldnt have done that. I love it.

Don't forget that if Toyota is buying your truck, you are allowed to take your aftermarket stuff off.

You can even take the good wheels/tires off. Put some old ones on.

The catch is the truck has to able to drive onto the transport truck.
    No pulling engines/trannys/etc.

I wonder if the front fenders hood and grill off the old truck would fit on a first gen. I like the 01-04 but I also like the older style. Has anyone ever tried this? I think the trucks have been the same for a long time and the tacoma name was to replace the term pickup.

Not to steal your thread but just in case you like the look of your old better than the first gen.

I just put a deposit on a 2002 5spd sr5 2.7L. I will be switching my tires and 1 year old diehard into the new truck ill prolly even keep my new muffler. I wonder if the tailgate/tailights will be interchangeable those would be good to have as spares.

Mine is 04 2.7 SR5 5 speed wouldn't change a thing. I bought mine new just when the 05 were not for sale but at the car shows.

What color? how many miles? Did toyota give you enough to buy outright?

The toyota check is about 475 dollars short but I'm still not complaining. Its that sand color. I'll post some pictures when I bring it home friday. Does anyone know if I can put my stock alloy wheels from the old one onto the new Tacoma with steel wheels? Both are six lug. I may need extended wheel studs or somthing

Nice sounds like you found a good one.

I heard you can swap the wheels the earlier trucks are 15 inch and my 04 is 16 inch wheel. People have asked before about brake rotor clearance and the 15 inch cleared. Do a search on that to make sure.
