It comes with a super-sophisticated, high-tech, small round sticker to seal the lock. It's not really the sort of thing that you are continually putting on and off...at least not for me.

Yeah the McGard has a less sophisticated lock (basically like most wheel locks) but is significantly more weather- and corrosion-resistant. The clamp band can be cut with household scissors (as shown in the install video ). Just another item to frustrate and slow down the thief a little.

I saw that. That's why I posted the link to the TW member's post who installed it on his truck!

Yikes. I'd hate to have my first tailgate stolen let alone a second. WTF is wrong with people

    EDIT: Can't spell.

They sure do. I am an insurance broker and have seen multiple claims for this. Just think about how expensive a painted tailgate with a camera and locks can be. Easily several thousand dollars in many cases. Some are even power down now with built in steps etc.

I think its happening a lot in the Phoenix and surrounding areas also. I'm going to hope I'm good with the electronic lock, hose clamp with a 5 sided tightener that takes a special tool, I'm going to add the washers to the cable ends, and my truck is always in the garage at night, and doesnt get more than about 6000 miles per year or so. Plus I'm retired, so home all day. With all of that, hopefully I'm good. Unfortunately, they may break my tailgate handle before they find all the other slow-down devices.

I would still rather replace a damaged tailgate then let the m win and take it!

The difference between the Sabelco and the various wrap around approaches is that the wraps can be cut off then they're done and on their way.
The Sabelco is a heavy steel shield that also has a locking pin that goes into the grommet hole on the hinge.
It is that pin that is controlled by the lock and that makes all the difference. You can't clear the the tailgate hinge unless you can free the pin which is inside the hinge which is under the steel shield. The lock is still in place even if they cut the steel cover off. There is no room to slide the lock back to free the pin. You can't cut the cover with a pair of shears.
$100 is cheap insurance for a $2500+ tailgate and the annoyance of dealing with the aftermath.
My wife demanded one after my yard guy had two tailgates stolen from a Tacoma and a Tundra. One had a wrap type lock.
Do as you wish and what makes sense for you, this is not a paid advertisement. ; )
