I took my truck in for service last week. After a few hours I get a call from the shop, the guy says, "your e-brake cables are snapped at the back wheels". He then goes on to say it will be $1300 to fix them and turn the drums. I told him not to have the tech fix them, just do the work I requested.

I picked up the truck, stopped at a friends house and we took a peek, nothing "snapped". I started the truck, applied the e-brake, put the truck in drive and brought up the RPM's. The truck torqued up but didn't move. Same thing in reverse.

    Am I missing something?

WOW! There is nothing in the rear brakes that costs $1300 to fix. As for the ebrake cables, what goes wrong with them is the aluminum piece where the cable enters the brake backing plate corrodes and allows water into the cable. This can cause the cable to hang up and not release. Turning the drums when you replace the cables is like saying you have to buy a hooker a steak dinner after she does the deed.

I suppose if you wanted to take the time you could take it to another shop for their opinion, but honestly it sounds like you have it sorted and there isn’t any issue.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you looked up the shop on the interwebs and found low star ratings. There are plenty of excellent shops out there but the bad ones ruin the fun for everyone.

I previously had a favorite dealership near me that I use to go to all the time. Over time I noticed the quality in their work go down and time taken go up. Watching my dash cam footage I saw a bunch of 20-30 year olds acting like 12 year olds. They just constantly played with my aftermarket lights and screwed around the whole time, not actually doing any work. The dealership also started trying to charge for extra garbage and telling me stuff that I absolutely had to do or my truck would implode. It’s quite unfortunate.

Love when exlube guys sell the cabin and engine air filters at a 25k when you get free ones again at the 30k. Watch out for that shit, but if the e brake works it sounds like they are starving for work or someone new is stupid. Stay away! Find a new dealer.
