All this talk of wages and careers and not one mention of the military is a true WTF in my mind. Whether enlisted or officer you gain worthwhile experience, and job skills and, if you stay to retirement, great retirement benefits.

Eh, I know 3 MechE's that got jobs with different oil companies and are each making over $90,000 a year at age 23. Exxon even spent $20,000 on some ridiculous background check to hire one of my friends.

Engineers do well right out of college.

I realize me is a great degree. Absolutly. But I really can't believe every me student can expect to make that kind of money right out of school. It's just not realistic.

No sir haha. Am I really that far off that a 22 year old me student who just graduated with little to no work experience can expect to earn 78k right off the bat?

    It depends.

a friend of mine graduated last year and is now working on the development side of Boeing, and his starting, after being scouted and all that was around 60k

I had 2 friends get ME degrees. One ended up living in a tent in her aunt's back yard in CA for a year or more because she couldn't find a job. Now she's in Alaska, and I have no idea if she's using her degree.

The other friend went back to school in another state for a different degree.

Degrees don't guarantee jobs, nor pay rates. I have a degree, but every place I went wanted experience. Where the hell do you get experience if no one will hire you without it? Even if you have a Masters.

A guy i went to HS with has a Masters in chemistry of some description, and a bachelors in something else. What's he doing? Writing patent laws for IBM, not a damn thing to do with chemistry.
