There were still a couple in some backwoods truck stops around Wisconsin last year. My dad and I were BSing a couple weeks back and he mentioned the one in the truck stop I used to work at finally going away, and that started a line of conversation...

My kids will never have to use a WebTv. I had the chicken pox when I was 18 and that's what I did to pass the time. That was ruff but I lived.

    Philosophy.

Everyone is so happy to accept what others think is right rather than form their own opinions.

With that being said, if I ever choose to have children, I will encourage them to read Calvin and Hobbes when they need a break from exploring the way I did when I was a kid.

Not sure if someone has said this but...
Now that almost every kid has a cell phone they will never experience the fear of calling a girls house and having to talk to her father when he answers the phone.

When youngsters are getting ready for college they won't be assured that in case of an emergency there are several call boxes around campus.

Also there aren't any payphones anymore. I think airports may be the only places and they may not even have them anymore.

    • Getting up to change the TV channel to one of three or four options.
    • How wire hangers and TVs were related
    • Reel-to-reel tape
    • Calling into a radio station to request a song.
    • Carefully lifting the needle off the record player and placing it down so you could hear the song again.
    • Learning an instrumental by playing the record at 16 instead of 33.
    • Dodgeball
    • Getting a whoopin' from the school, and having your parents back them up.

I'm working on designs for a half sleeve of all of my favorite strips just to immortalize how freaking awesome it is.

I think you're right on the 10 years though! :(

Does anyone even carry cash/change anymore? I always get funny looks for paying for things in cash

So I just had a thought... now im also slightly intoxicated to bear with me. yall are listing off these things in what APPEARS, key word this is the interent, appears, like its a bad thing, with a "oh back in my day" type of emphasis. But many of these references are things the next generation does not need to know because we have evolved technologically, as a society. Which to me seems like a good thing. No something bad. Sure there can be nostalgia as we look back and think damn, did i really have to work that hard to find the meaning of a word? But really wikipedia and the internet and google and the smart phone has made people more informed at a specific period of time than they would be had those things not existed. So in some ways shouldnt we be celebrating that these are things that our kids (or future maybe some long away day kids in my case) don't have to deal with or know how to do?
