Hello tacomaworld, new guy here with my first post. I'm sold on buying a Tacoma and have my eye on a 2011 access cab, 6cyl, 6 speed manual TRD 4x4 sport model. I've searched the site and found some great information but I'm still a little gun shy about purchasing it.

I live in the northeast and want to know if this truck is going to be good in the snow and also on the beach, I like to surf fish and our beaches can get pretty soft at times. I've read about all the traction aids and frankly it's confusing to me. My previous vehicle was a jeep liberty and all you had was 4hi & 4lo.

In short, is this truck going to get me where I want to go with an autoLSD?

    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

I also live in the northeast and have a TRD Sport v6 auto dc. You will be amazed at what the truck can do. There will never be an issue for what you are looking to do with it. I would get it and not look back. If you are looking to do serious off-roading the Offroad package is better but like I said a sport can also handle some pretty roughy terrain. Good luck!

Sports do great off road. Air down on the beach and have fun.

a 4x4 tacoma is a BEAST in the snow. It would be a wise choice, and a huge improvement over the jeep liberty. Don't ask me what i think of those:mad:

They are also a beast on the beach. Spent a fair amount of time fishing off the beach with a friend's taco as home base. Perfectly suited for all New England had to offer! Where in the northeast are ya?

*** EDIT: Buy it as long as it's decently priced and it makes financial sense for you and your needs / situation.

There, now my conscience is clear.

I imagined Ben Stiller in your avatar saying that...

My Tacoma's been in the snow in Colorado and the sand on the gulf coast...we get some pretty soft stuff too and it did it all in 4HI. I think the key is airing down on the sand, like others have said. If you're going to be spending a lot of time in the sand without a second vehicle, traction boards would give you huge peace of mind.

4x4 aside, be sure to check thoroughly underneath for rust issues, seeing as how you are in the northeast...

I never been to the beach with my sport 4x4 , I dont like salt water around my truck. having said that, I do get salt all over it in the winter from the roads. I never had any issues in the snow and we get a bit of the white stuff around here.

What they asking for it? How many miles on the ticker? I'm looking at them now myself and the TRD drives so nicely. Get a leveling kit and some wheels and tires and you'll be set.

The Tacoma is more than capable.

Quick story. Thursday night one of my dogs, Buster, thought it was a good night to go on a "walk about". It was dark and we were having 30-40 mph gusts. I searched for 45 minutes on foot with a flashlight. We live in a fairly new neighborhood on top of hill with surrounding woods. Anyway, I decided to get in my Tacoma to continue the search. We have an access road right off our main road that is under construction. It was very wet from raining that day. I decided to drive down it. Needless to say, I found my truck sinking in mud. I started to spin so put it in 4H and bulldozed right out of the mess. It put a smile on my face. Moral of the story? You never know when your going to need a capable 4x4. Oh, my wife and I found Buster 15 minutes later. Happy night!

Thanks for the responses. I was just a little Leary about the autoLSD.

It's a 2011 certified preowned, 65k miles. 3 yr/30k mile warranty. Previous owner had it lifted but dealership removed it.

    Here's a pic

I am hoping to buy a White 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road that is for sale on craigslist. For a reference could I ask what the dealer is asking for the Tacoma?
