Impact could have been worse to the frame and greater injury. All that stuff is designed to crumple and absorb impact, not transferring the jolt / force to you as in a rigid steel bumper bolted to frame. You are changing the design.

No. Not even close. Maybe $650.00 worth of damage.
By the way, the correct word is "too"

Lol I am in Claims also (not Auto). Have been for 20+ years. I find it hard to believe that you are in Claims for giving out that wrong advice.

Hanging up on your adjuster and mailing checks back will not help your case; rather it will flag you as an unreasonable ass that no one will want to help.

Also, if you hang up/mail checks back/otherwise tantrum, don't forget that I (if I was your adjuster) will have complete records of all of this to provide to the insurance commissioner when they ask me what the hold up is on getting your claim resolved. If they see my attempts to be reasonable vs you acting like a five year old they will close their case without doing anything for you.

The more I read this thread, the more this bothers me. Here we have a guy who seems to be a descent fella, who goes to work, is doing the right things in life. Does his shift and tries to get home to his family, and this crash happens. Not right. Other motorist has no respect for himself or others safety. Thank the Good Lord you walked away. Take this DUI guy to the cleaners! And when you pick out your new ride, be sure and get several options you normally would not choose. A gift for yourself! Good luck.

Air bag deployment adds a lot of cost. Air bag units are very, very pricey. Also add in the cost of everything they just exploded out of and the estimate can reach a $6-10k more than if the air bags didn't go off

Sorry for your loss brotha. Good to see you're ok. I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. If they harmed themselves by doing so, then go ahead. But once you put someone else's life/family in danger and damage their hard earned property... FTP!

40K to repair damage? That's crazy. Good thing is that you are well and can move on from this.

Thank you yes I am very lucky to have came out alive. But yes I work 48 hard hours a week to maintain my household with my wife. The worse part about all of this is not knowing if I’ll find another OR MT and maintain the same payment. Sucks having to deal with all the aftermath of someone else’s poor choices. Just inconvenient as shit

Honest question, do steel bumpers bolt straight to the main frame, or to the front crumple structures?
If the first, your right. If the second, it gets complicated but don't worry about it.

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes along this part of the journey. I should be clear and free of the old truck once gap kicks in. Already looking at a replacement.
