was outside today, and was standing near my truck, when something caught my eye, the clip that holds the leafs together, is bent looking..... got down on my knees and stuck my head inside the fender to get a closer look..... looks like both side, the top leaf is about to snap...... yes i had a heavy trailer on it once, and it was cold (-20*f) i wonder if the cold and heavy stressed them to the breaking point..... (not going to say that that the dealer, oops) it might get me the tsb leaf pack for my 2012 off road double cab. see pics below, sorry they are blurry, my iphone camera sucks now

Yeah, but look at your 2nd pic, one of your spring retainers is bent all the way opened. Those are just metal pieces bent around the leafs to keep the leafs in line, they aren't structural. When you're loaded down heavily, they aren't even doing anything. Don't get be wrong, the stock springs are junk but I don't see anything on your set that jumps out as OMG you're gonna die if you drive it. If you can get the TSB out of it, great, new leaf pack for you :)

From what I understand from TW the TSB is pretty useless. I am going the Dakar route.

Here's the thing, if you were overloaded, you'd have been planted squarely on the bump stops. If you had an 800 lb tongue weight, you were likely not even riding on the springs at all.

If you haul, get the TSB done, it's not a great fix, but it does help at least a little.

The metal leaves that bend + brittle paint that doesnt = cracked paint on top of perfectly fine leaves.

    calm down OP.

as much as i hate chevy, my dad silverado's never did that on his springs, and we well overloaded his 08 he had, to the point, the bump stops where smushed as much as they could..... only reason we used my truck, and not his, to be honest, he didnt want to get his nice shinny 2012 3500hd gasser, dirty (hes a flipping clean freak times 1000, had it a year, and just turned 8,000 miles......... drives moms car more than his, making me take her into work in the am) but, anyways, i hope it is normal, but ive never seen a truck do that, and bend stuff like that, even if it was over loaded hitch weight wise, overall weight, i was only at around 4k

It's no secret, Chevy springs are much better than Toyota's.

The bent clamp was definitely not caused by loading. As mentioned, it's not doing anything when on the stops.
The top of that clamp is placed under stress when the spring is extended. Axle wrap during hard acceleration/shifting comes to mind as a possible cause.

do you guys think i should still stop at the yota dealer, see what they say??? if not, i might have to scrap my plans, i just got a deal on a tonneanua cover, so that leaves me 1150 roughly, so after tires (i flippin hate the rugged trails) leaves me around 350
i guess ill go to the spring shop, and see what they can do up for rear springs, and worry about 5100's/884's

well, yeah, i do have a lead foot, and i do recall, about a month ago, an idiot bus driver, and i got a chance to pass, so i floor boarded it, and it was damp roads, and they ass end got bouncey as hell from tires slipping, and probably axle wrap....

/\ this. If you overloaded the leaf springs to the point of actually bending them(they are spring steel) you would probably have serious damage. I see nothing to be concerned about(at least from the pic quality)

when i was loaded heavy, i did look at the springs, and looked like they were bent just past flat... i dont haul heavy often thou, but once a year with the trailer, then mid spring is when picking up the stuff for the gardens for my parents when im out and about during the day (12-15 bags of mulch, 8 bags or so of top soil, etc), and when i first got my truck and had my dirt bike still, loading that up to go riding, otherwise, if i had 100 pounds in the bed, thats alot, think what im going to do is, after i get my tonneau cover on this week, get a price on the duratracs for my stock wheels now, and see what i have left, and go visit the spring shop up in the falls, and see what a complete replacement pack from them goes for, with being capable for about 1000 pounds hitch weight, so i got buffer room, and suspension left, and then go about getting some 5100's and 884's and prob uca's for alinement, if anyone knows, if i get an extra leaf, or two, from the spring shop, with my off road shocks be ok for now??? thanks!
