OP, before you buy, go test drive a Nissan Frontier.

When I was looking I came very close to buying the Frontier and you can get lots of $$$ off the sticker (I could have had a loaded Pro-4X for around $31k)

The interior is not nearly as nice but it has a proven powertrain and there is no lack of low end power.

It's also the only true mid-size out there.

The Tacoma and Canyorado twins are significantly bigger.

You're about to spend a lot of $$. Go try everything out there before you plunk it down.

OP, I hope you are in good health and remain so. I'm 66 and plan on outliving my 2017. When 86, will sell Taco and buy an RV and a Gold Wing. At 96, selling those and getting a Prius so I can be smug. At 106, it's Honda Civic.
    After that, we'll see.

I'm in The Dalles Oregon but have a vacation place in Cathlamet Washington. I looked at rigs in both The Dalles and Astoria.

When I bought my 2017 limited I found the best pricing to be at wilsonville toyota and vancouver toyota they sell them for like 38k just a fyi or tell the other dealers you are at to price match them.
I sold my 2017 taco 3 moths later and got the Colorado with the diesel option which I would strongly suggest and and the canyon for some extras luxury features.

This is a well thought out/worded reply. I agree fully, and definitely also recommend said long test drive up and down hills (including traffic) to see if the auto transmission shifting is to your expectations.

I would be willing to travel to get a good deal. My truck, we drove a few hours to pick it up. I have gone as far as 15hrs to pick up a vehicle.

Oh, also, contact a whole bunch of dealerships telling them what you are looking for. Use email to do this. We contacted over 20 dealerships. You want the internet manager as they are usually more about volume than the traditional salesman.

    Perhaps his wallet says different.

I'd buy a raptor of money wasn't an option. Love driving them at work. Hell I miss my 2013 FX4 ecoboost

Wait for the 2018. The howling/leaking rear diff will be fixed, you can get Entune 3, which can be a big improvement if Toyota does it right, and you'll get an updated nav map. You might also get really lucky and get better transmission options.

The 4 Cyl actually have less issues than the V6.
But IMO, if you want a Tacoma, you should get a Tacoma. Recalls are free to fix should you run into any issues. You sir, do not need anyone to help you justify your purchase. I'm sure you've worked hard and should purchase a truck you'll enjoy as your final one. Like many others, I've had no issues with my purchase and couldn't be convinced to purchase a different truck even if my Taco did give me issues. I happen to love Tacos!

Okay, it has a few recalls, but most cars do. Nothing is perfect. Also, people had to find something to complain about...like the seating position. I'm 5'3" and I have no issues with my Tacoma. Those of you who want power seat, leather, moonroofs, vented seats, heated cupholders, etc need to realize that you bought a truck, not a luxury crossover. Honestly, most complains I see are about the extras. If you want a land yacht, go get a Ridgeline. If you want a truck, the Tacoma is perfect.

I'm starting to look at Ridglines. Dealer here in town won't have any for weeks.
