I am trying to join the ranks of Tacoma Owners. I need a smaller pickup for things around the house and the Toyota Tacoma wins hands down. For the time being I'm trying to keep the purchase price down because of a new house. I have found a one owner 2008 2WD standard cab, 15 inch wheels, toyota bed liner, automatic transmission and a 4 cylinder engine for $7,500 dollars. The truck is extremely clean inside and out with good rubber. Should I not consider this truck because it has 150,000 miles on the clock? Any comments pro or con will be appreciated and considered.

If it's been taken care of, no worries. These trucks are still reliable, especially when maintained appropriately. Sounds like a great price, too.

Edit: I've got 94k on my '09, and its never left me stranded.

Personally I would never buy a vehicle with those miles even if it was a Tacoma. I have a 2008 and mine only has 42k on the clock. That said, it's your call, and these trucks SHOULD last a while. But 150k miles is a lot no matter what the vehicle...especially for $7500. I understand Tacomas hold their value, but at some point people DO need to realize they can't survive a nuclear blast, and every vehicle isn't built the same. Case in point, my uncle had a 93 Chevy Blazer that had 250k on it when he got rid of it, and it was still going strong. My 93 Blazer needed a new engine at 87k.

Wow they cranked on the miles! As others have said if the routine maintenance has been done most likely you should be good to go, but as with any vehicle, especially one with quite a few miles on it, it can be risky.

Sometimes budget dictates mileage...my '95 Avalon had 135k on it when I got it and was the absolute best car I ever owned when a deer took it down at 235k.

Just a thought, with the truck being an 08 the miles on it have to be "highway" miles versus city driving, I would think. I've always thought highway miles wear a vehicle less than city driving. However with any miles proper maintenance is the key to long vehicle life. If I buy it I'll check and service everything. I do my own service for the most part so I guess I'll need a Toyota service manual.

Bought a 06 with 99k on it and after only 3k I'm rebuilding the trans. It started whining, tranny guys said the pump bearing went. On the plus side is I like the truck and it fits all my needs so I hope to keep it for a long time.:)

150k miles on a Tacoma is like buying a cummins with 250k, which is just getting broken in.

This thread is when I first started looking for a Taco. I ended up passing on this truck because the owner and I couldn't agree on delivery and $$$$. I did buy a 2010 Extended cab, 2.7L, 5 lugger with 44K miles which I really like. I'll post the story and pictures in another thread when I find my camera.

No it's not just getting broken in, it is broken in. My last tuck was a cummins and it had two pistons go out at 120k. I was told hey its a cummins it will go forever, not true. Just because its a taco or cummins or whatever 150k is a fair amount and should be checked out fully.

That's the same truck I have (except mines a 2006). It had 40k miles when I bought it in Aug 2009, it's nothing fancy but it is rock solid reliable and pretty good on gas, I average 24mpg. Does your 2010 have the SR5 package or other goodies? Pics?

Sounds like you have a nice truck. My 2010 is marked SR5 on the paper work? I don't really know what that means. It has power steering, power windows and door locks, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel. It doesn't have fog lamps or intermittent whippers. Like you said nothing fancy but it's fun to drive and gets the job done. I'm going to tint the front windows and add some type of tonneau cover and fog/driving lamps and that's about all for mods.

sr5 is a package.. it included upgraded seats, chrome rear bumper, color matched door handles and front bumper and maybe a couple of other minor things.

This is true, but I believe there are two different SR5 packages, #1 and #2. Mine has power door locks, power windows, power mirrors, cruise, tilt/telescoping wheel, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, chrome rear bumper, color matched front bumper, chrome grille surround, driver's lumbar support, and metallic interior trim. But it does not have color-matched exterior door handles or fog lights.

Found this article... how did I get SR5 Package #2 when my truck is not a pre-runner? Not complaining, just curious:

I still don't know exactly what I have. I have a chrome grille but a black rear bumper. I also have bucket seats instead of a bench it that matters. Here are some pictures.

looks like a base truck with the convience package (power windows, power locks, cruise, sliding rear window) i'd venture to say, somebody put in the chrome front after they purchased it or during the rebuild process.
