Thinking about buying a flooded truck

Might be better off just grabbing a salvaged 1st gen if that's your price range.

 

Thought about that too, but I really like the Toyota platform.

 

Do you get to pull the dip stick or anything like that?

 

For now. I'm not seriously hunting. Just looking to snag something lucky. I don't want to invest a whole lot right now. I've bid on 1st gens in the past as well. I bid on one that was t-boned that went for 8k. But at the same time I've seen brand new tundy's with no damage go for the same. Its all about being the lucky bidder at the right time.

 

You can find old 84's and 85's for around 3k. I saw one a few months back parked around the corner from me. I will see if I can find the photo.

 

if its salvage title.... its been deemed totaled.... that means costs of repairs are higher than the truck is worth....

if its a flood truck thats been detailed count on water levels being above the top of the tires to bottom of windows.... and its been sitting, i wouldnt even consider any running gear to be worthwhile as rust from water ingress has taken its toll.

 

That’s going to be a restoration and reliability nightmare, especially the electronics and sensors. It’s not like it’s a water damaged Supra that ‘might’ have potential.

 

If I drove 11 hours to go inspect it, yeah. I normally bid on things a lot closer, but there weren't any tacos in my area atm. I figured I can turn it into a vacation trip to go pick it up and trailer it home.

No one in MO wants to sell their tacos for that cheap. I saw a first gen the other day listed for 8k with three times as many miles as my truck. Pass.

 

I may know of another one that is a little better for around 8k. Let me dig up that photo for ya.

 

What kind of water was it in and how high did the water get. If its salt water forget it, and if it went as high as the dash forget it.

That’s sounds like it has the potential to sit in your yard or garage for yrs. I think I would lose interest with that project.
