Thinking about buying a flooded truck

My friend bought a flood damaged taco from La. I thought he was absolutely crazy, but he did it anyway. All in he paid like 12-13K for a 11' DCLB Sport 1 yr ago. It ran great until a tree fell on it while he was driving this winter.

 

Id pull it all apart, learn the ins and outs of the 2nd gen truck in doing so, and then put it back together in some kind of purpose buit way. I think it would be a fun project, maybe a bit daunting at first, but once I got it apart I could either sell it off piece by piece or carry on. For less than 1k I think it'd be worth it even just for part value. Alas, I probably won't land it. Wishful thinking.

Hmm, found a blown up 89 in KY. Looks like a mess. $800.

 

Most are, but it's a good platform.

 

Wish it was a complete truck. I'd probably exo the rear and move the tank to on top of the frame.

 

That is one you make a flatbed out of and run a full cage.

 

Motors in cali are less than a grand, with trans maybe 1200 (22re).

If rust is eating the floorboards I'd say no...but if its just a trail rig....screw it. Plate as much as you can and move on. I'd do it if I had the room

 

Some dummy will outbid you for sure.

 

I have never seen any that were not total junk for under $6-8 thousand

 

For that, I'd rather just equip my DD to do enough to satisfy the wheeling urge.

 

Post up a link to the auction. Doesn't sound like any if us are interested in outbidding you. We will see who gets closest to the selling price.

All those sensors that keep the truck running....they need power.

That is a truck that wanted to die.

 

Id save your money. With all the hurricane cars out there with washed titles you may get screwed. Salt water eats everything and will be a nightmare.

 

Not what I meant. Meant, radio, mirrors, windows, climate control. Extra stuff, not bare bones operation items.

 

It was up to 4800 last I saw. GG.

 

It'll likely go for more than double that......
