Thinking about converting to a full size, what are my options now in terms of reliability?

Those Silverados have been having lifter problems.

I think with any modern halfton, you just have to pick your poison. Choose the one with the features you like and the price you can swallow and dump it when the warranty is up.

    Sure.

In terms of reliability, all half tons are pretty much the same now I would say. Toyota always used to be better but not anymore.

Its just I would rather have a more HD truck with a nice V8 than a flimsy Tundra with the 3.4

My next truck will be a HD for sure. But not everybody needs that.

    Fair.

But man, those HDs are so overbuilt.

    Maybe one day...

Overbuilt is a bad thing? The way vehicles and regulations are going getting an HD truck seems to be the last way to get something strong and reliable. I know they aren’t need for everyone but man I love how beefy my F350 is.

I'd like to go out and purchase a new 2025 Tacoma regular cab that was as reliable as a 2025 gas Super Duty.

No no :) Its a very good thing.

Thats why if/when I ever need a full size, Im only gonna go domestic and HD. V8 or diesel, none of this twin turbo trash.

I shouldve been more clear, none of this I4 / V6 twin turbo trash.

Most turbo diesels are very robust and awesome engines.

Turbos still seem to be a common failure point. Two of my uncle's trucks were down waiting for turbos one time and he had to get his Land Rover running to haul oats for his horses.

Yeah I mean it could be, turbo is not super hard to replace on a diesel. The rest of the engine is usually pretty solid though.

This is my dream truck just in black:
    70 serier LC.jpg :D

Ha! Land Rover. Awesome offroad while it works.

And that's perfectly fine. Thats why I mostly want it, I do really like the simplicity of the rest of the truck too.

    Those engines are bulletproof.

    To add:

I would gladly trade my super awesome 3G for that 70 series LC. I mean would be even better if I could have both, but im not a rich guy by any means. :)

For fullsize and gas... f150 with the 5.0L Coyote or f250 with the 7.3L Godzilla. Period.

I’ve been very happy with my 2018 F150 2.7 ecoboost. Great truck that drives like a car, so smooth and quiet.
Had to bring it in for a transmission TSB and the coil packs needed replacement at 80,000 miles. Other than that no problems and I average 21 mpg. This little 2.7 is built like a diesel and is scary fast in this truck. Faster than a wrx

while I don’t have skinny jeans… if you want a full size truck EV I fucking LOVE my Lightning. It’s far and away the most fun and enjoyable vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s a full size (sorta anyway it’s gotta 5.5’ bed) rocket ship. 600 hp and 800 ft lbs of torque. It’s impossible not to smile when driving it. FWIW I’d totally drive a Cyber Truck mostly because I’m an Elon fan boi.
