If you take the right courses at a community college you could be a fully certified firefighter/emt in about a year.

Firemen get laid so easily its ridiculous. But aside from that you only work bout ten or eleven days a month, make full salary with great benefits, you join one of the largest brotherhoods out there, you get paid to play with fire and break shit and help people, and with all the time off you can sit around and play halo all day or go back to school on the Departments dime.

A lot of the guys have second businesses that they own. So they are doing really well for themselves.

Just another option for you to think about...

I got on the FD when I was 19. Been on for about four years and have been lucky with the calls and experience I've gotten during that time. Right now I'm just doing a lot of fire related classes but maybe in a year or so I'll go back and get my Gen Ed out of the way to get my Associates in Fire Science.

    My .02 cents bud.

god damn, so much to read. derek, your 18 life is supposed to be confusing. i was there and thought college wasn't for me. i went through a butt load of jobs and like i said in my pm i finally found one i can retire from. it sucks cause i was in your shoes lots of times. doubted myself too much. stay in school till figure out what you like and wouldnt mind doing till you retire. dont stress yourself out too much.
