I'd have to wait on the new truck. I respect the Tundra, but it is a dinosaur. I seriously considered one 5 years ago but ended up with a slightly used F150 instead. After 5 years I have no doubt I made the right choice.

Realistically just like any 1/2 ton around 8K is pushing it. And most all of the other manufacturers will pull 8K easier than Tundra.

    I meant "Lexus SUV". That's a lowly IS250:)

I think you're in the majority, but there is a pretty big percentage of people (myself included) who are more attracted to these dinosaurs because they are on proven platforms, reliable as hell, and even though they may chug gas like Will Farrell at a frat party, at least we know we always count on them to start up and get us where we are going with no drama. I'm stoked my truck still requires me to turn a key in the ignition.

    Do it OP

I’m adding a Tundra to the line up next year. My dads 2017 5.7L 4x4. Only has 6k mikes on it. He needs to go back to a 1 ton diesel for the ranch. Tundra can’t haul tractors and bulldozers. He’s waiting for prices to drop and inventory to build up again. Keeping the taco, I’m 6’ and don’t have those issues but going to be starting a family which I feel the Tacoma lacks for space. Kid, stuff, dogs etc, don’t feel that happening comfortably in the taco which is why I’m adding the tundra.

I did it. Biggest con is it's big in a parking lot. But, I usually am pulling a trailer so I park in the sticks anyway.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Set up properly something like that, though I'd install a trans cooler sumo springs and and a wd hitch. Also tundras have a very low payload.

Although not directly comparable, driving both new V8 F150s and V6 Turbo F150s all day at work, you can have the V8s. With all the modern emissions, new V8s are pretty strangled. The turbo v6s drive amazing. If I was in the market for a full size, a V8 wouldn’t even be on the radar. If Toyota does a turbo V6.....more the better.

    Turbo is where it’s at.

Its 3 bucks a gal here in NY. My brother just bought the new Honda crv 2.0l turbo. 34 MPG 2k off sticker 0%. My partner just traded his dodge plow trucks from gas to diesel. Both getting mega deals. Toyota wont budge on sticker price.

    I agree...
Don’t get me wrong. I love a good V8 in a 1/2 ton, but I’m interested to see what they do with the V6 twin turbo in terms of ability and fuel economy. If I were in the market for a 1/2 ton I’d wait for it. However, I personally wouldn’t want to buy one until around the third production year. There will be bugs....

Man! Thinking about going for the tundra as well. Have 1 kid now and with another coming, I’m afraid the Tacoma might be a little too small. Unfortunately just bought the Tacoma haha. Maybe in a few years...

I just got home from a 300 mile round trip with my 5.7. All xway. Pulled 16.9 mpg hand calculated.

My taco only gets me 18+ when no head winds.

The tundra doesn't even notice head winds.

It doesn't get as bad mpg when left in stock form.

Not sure to be honest. I think it's a little underrated as there are some cars and suvs with the same or better payload

    DO IT!!!!

Here's ours the day we brought it home in March of 2017, still have it although many mods later. The Taco is just my work vehicle, the Tundra is my favorite. There is no comparison.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am working to get the best deal otherwise I will keep banging my head in the 17 Tacoma! LOL
Gonna run me almost 18K after trade in value of 23.5K which according to Nada and such is on the high end and the same as if I sold on my own.!

If you end up keeping the Tacoma, you need to work on your entrance, my friend. I'm a solid 6'2" all in the torso, and I've yet to bounce my head off anything entering the truck.
That said, I've owned the Tundra and love it. Just doesn't fit into my garage or current lifestyle.
    Good luck either way.
