I'm 5' 8". I have to hop up into the tundra. I've bopped my head in the tundra many times. Not so much in the Tacoma.

People will typically jump on the "it's a really old design" bandwagon. But it's a damn fine truck. Yes, it's bones are old. But the flip side of that is proven technology.

The I-Force engines are silky smooth and torquey. They ride well and are quite comfortable.

And gas mileage? Is what it is. My neighbor has an F150 2.7 EB. He doesn't get anywhere near what the advertised mileage is....and most full size trucks don't.

If I were in the market for a full size truck I would snatch up a Tundra in a heartbeat. And frankly, when you start looking at prices, it's often times a better deal than the Big 3

Thanks for all the replies guys! Like I said, I am trying to make a deal with limited supply and will NOT get caught up in hype!! I understand that once I buy the 2021 and the updated truck comes on line I will take a hit. Worse case scenario I will keep my 17 TACO which has served me with the exception of my head well! LOL

I have test driven the Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. There is a reason collectively my family has 5 Toyota's of various types.
It's all about the CASH deal as I do not want to lease or finance!

I didn't know any brand wanted to do cash deals.

I don't think that carries as much weight as it used to.

I'd argue it carries less weight than people think. Dealer doesn't want cash deals first, maybe seconds or thirds. They want that sweet kick back money from the finance side. At any rate I'd keep the cash part hush hush until the very end.

    It's kinda dealer specific.

Yeah, cash seems to be a bit of a buzz word in dealers now.. they're usually not a fan since they get all their profits from the financing.

Tell them to go pound sand. Toyota isn't affected by the chip shortage because they had a wake up call after the 2011 earthquake and decided to ask all their suppliers to have 4+ month supplies in case of emergencies. They're the only ones not hurting as a result.

Tundra is a great truck. I had one for 4 months but had to go to a larger towing capacity in the 3/4 ton arena. The 5.7 is a heck of an engine for that c.i. displacement, 10.5 ring gear, and the 4.10:1 rear differential ratio. OK cab room but certainly more than the small truck. Also power seats, 4-wheel disc brakes, etc.

Same reason they have the worst gas mileage in class, they are heavy as fuck. It's great on the xway but sucks to drive in town. I also miss my Taco off-road. When I no longer have a trailer I'll be back in a midsize if I still need a truck.

It’s more truck than most people honestly need but if you do actually need it, go for it!

Right around the time I bought my Taco, I almost bought my dad's 07 Tundra with the 5.7 instead. I really loved that truck but honestly, it felt like I was driving a building. Great on the freeway as others have mentioned, but parking anywhere sucked and I was always afraid someone would ding me. Also, I wanted something a bit more off road worthy out of the box. The Tundra can get there but at stock height, on stock tires, with stock suspension, it's not exactly trail worthy.

Seriously though OP, if you want a Tundra, now is the time to get one. I'm with the other guys in that I would definitely stay away from the new twin turbo 6 (assuming that's what it is) for the first 2 years or so.

Just get prepared for horrendous gas mileage with the 5.7L. The Tacoma isnt great but the Tundra is a guzzler. Will go a million miles and use a couple oil tankers of fuel along the way.
