    Mostly dust and dirt.
Get the 21 Tundra. Starting in 22 the rock solid reliability disappears.

I can’t wait for the 2022 Tundra to come out.

Peeps will be selling their 2016-2017 Tundras in droves and I hope to get one while they’re cheap (before they become priceless for having the last V8).

Let me know if any of y’all are selling a ‘16-‘17 SR5 4x4 Double Cab (6.5’ or 8’ bed) 5.7 (non-FFV) in anything but red, for real.

Let’s be realistic here. You have no idea if that’s true or not. I’m very happy that I got a 2021 but Toyota is Toyota. I’m sure the reliability will be just fine.

I disagree, the 2007 tundra had a mountain of issues, but internet research wasn't as popular.

I'd say the 2007 tundra had more issues in its first year than the 2016 tacoma first year.

They had the cam shafts breaking, premature transmission failures, and numerous other complaints.

Manhattan Beach Toyota participates in the Costco Auto Program. In 2017, I drove up from San Diego to get my Off Road 4x4 for $250 over invoice. None of the local dealers could come close to their price. Plus, there was no haggling.

I had a similar experience last year when I went to Irvine to pick up a Mini Cooper Countryman. The salesman was going to give me a 10% discount on upgraded mats. He couldn't believe it when I showed him a Costco email with a 50% off coupon for accessories (up to $100.00 off)!

I don’t think that’s what he was getting at. I understood it as the whole new platform will be unreliable. First model year of any new vehicle will have hiccups. I have made a point of never purchasing the first model year of a new vehicle (and I regularly buy new vehicles....I call it car ADD).

Basically yes, the quality overall is still higher than most, but people need to be patient. Lease a first year release and wait for rates and prices to drop a bit.

Nothing confirmed yet. I’m hoping Toyota will keep the V8 as an option.

F150 uses the 5.0 which makes its power at higher RPMs. 5.7 Tundra has better low end torque. I’m sure this is what you mean by being strangled.

I drive one some days at work and it is worse than a Tacoma for having a dead pedal and boring response. The V8 Fords have nothing on the turbo V6s. For sure, if you are towing, maybe they have a different capacity, but the OP just stated he wanted a larger truck to haul his family. If all I wanted was more interior room, the V8 F150s get a head pass from me. No point when Ford makes more efficient engines with a terrific driving experience in their boosted range of V6s.

I’m keeping the hope alive also but I don’t see it happening.

I hope they do. They know there is demand for a V8. The big three still offer V8s. Toyota would be making themselves less competitive by sticking to just a Turbo engines.

what year? I have a 08 and a 19 and the pedal is super responsive. But I have heard that some years had a bad dead pedal. My FJ and 4runner had a seriously dangerous dead pedal but a pedal commander fixed them both.

I have a 2017 V6. Have the dead pedal and searching trans issues that many complain about and in my case is documented as being normal for the truck when taking it to Toyota for service. Some of my first post on this forum were about that and I got hammered that I did not know what I was taking about. Oh well!

I like the Tundra for reliability, but that's about it. If I wanted a full size, I'd be going with the F150

I was talking to the guy who drives the Tundra with a dead pedal, as to make sure I steer clear of that year Tundra. I have no doubt the tacos have one.

Our work V8s are 2019 2WD models. Empty box. No add-ons. Our V6 boosted trucks are all fully laden with aluminum shells and tool boxes, supplies etc, and 4WD. We have a couple with the 2.7EB and a few with the 3.5EB. It is surprising how much more languid the empty V8 2WD haulers are compared to our EB v6 laden 4WD service vehicles.

The most impressive motor of the lot is the 2.7L EB. More off-the-line torque than the 3.5EBs. Super fun trucks to drive. If I had to buy and F150 for personal use, it would have the 2.7EB. I don’t do any towing.

My dream vehicle is a Tacoma with the same engine and drivetrain as the boosted fords. A 2.7L EB 10 speed Tacoma would be insane.

I would like to say “with Toyota quality”, but in all honesty, our fleet of Fords is trouble-free. I’ve never had a Ford let me down, or leave me stranded, so I’m not sure if their QC is truly any different than Toyota when it comes to trucks.

I know nothing about Fords, except Raptors look cool, so I am curious are the EB motors in the f150 as reliable as the 5.7L Tundra?

Just came back from driving a nicely appointed RAM 1500 with the V8. Would run me about the same price as the Tundra but with WAY more bells and whistles. Still a Dodge at the end of the day but boy was it loaded and ran real nice.
