As you get older and if you are ok financially its all about comfort. I too used to take my Tacoma's for trail rides. Now its towing boats and such!

Well, i for one always had small trucks since the early 70's having a datsun pickup. Decided it was time to get something bigger in 2001 buying a tundra. Really liked the truck but it did have 2 things that annoyed me...it ate fuel as fast as i could fill it and took a small parking lot to make a full circle. My gen3 tacoma is roughly the same length and weight...gets much better fuel economy, and no issues getting into tight places. I miss falling asleep in the tundra, it rode more like a luxury car than any truck at the time.

As much as I love what my Toyota (Tacoma) does for me it ain't no Tundra. LOL

My head will be thankful from not banging it anymore, not my wallet, that I am sure.

Won't miss the transmission that thinks on its own and a motor that is not quiet like the old V6 either.

My friend had a brand new 8speed ram and raced his dads 2007 tundra with 200k miles. Ram beat it by 1 truck length.
once you try a boosted tundra, the price for premium is a non issue.

Wish I had your luck. I'm on recall #2, which they tell me they are still working on the remedy. Several rattles that needed to be fixed and an annoying front end vibration that they couldn't ever figure out, but thankfully seems to have gone away for now.

Small stuff really but my Tacos had me really spoiled. I would rather be fishing than making service appointments.

I recently upgraded to a full-size truck and gave my wife my Tacoma, I looked at Tundras and ended up going with a Titan XD. If I could have afforded a Tundra that would have been my first choice. I say, get it!

Still beat it. Not sure the distance of your race, but you act like it's supposed to be an ass whooping. All I said is it is underpowered compared to the competition.

Don't get hung up on the mpg, I've got a 17 TRD-CM, compared to what my buddies get in their Rams & F-150s it's not far off, the difference is mine has never been back to the dealer for a repair.

Compared to the Taco @ 20mpg in the real world vs the Tundra @ 15mpg in the real world you're looking at an extra $20-25 a week (depending on prices) for 25K miles a yr.

I've got 90K on my Tundra, my best mpg was 22, worst was 11 when hauling a 30' enclosed from Michigan to TN. The typical avg is 18 but I travel a lot of expressway and don't drive it like it's a race car. I bought my 18 Taco as a compromise, it's my work vehicle. I didn't want to use up the Tundra running back & forth to customers. I don't need a full size for work, I could've got by with a small SUV but they're boring as f#ck. My plan is to drive the Taco a couple years then give it to my daughter as a graduation present.

Was just pointing out that the tundra is not that underpowered. You sound hurt by my comment, sorry buddy.

I'm not, but many factors go into drag races. Fact is that it has one of the lowest tow ratings of any of the current half ton pickups. It's just outdated is all; but that's what makes it so reliable.

The Tundra is only about 1 second faster than the third gen Tacoma in a quarter mile. I wouldn't get one to drag race, lol.

Great looking ride. 1970 has always been a favorite.

until you add a hill or a head wind. I have been in a 3rd gen taco going up a hill, its was pretty sad.
I hardly ever smash the peddle, its like throwing beer money out the window

Well that did not take long. Was told Tundra truck had arrived, being detailed and having its windows tinted. Hope to pick up tomorrow!
