Here's my 870 tactical magnum. It's a great gun and a blast to shoot. It has a cool army green parkerized finish to it. The 870 just felt more solid to me than the Mossberg did when I was shopping around.

I have a Mossberg 500, love it. A buddy that I go out shooting has an 870 - like it too. One problem with his, it won't shoot a certain brand of shells - I forget which brand though. sorry =/

Well I wanna play show and tell too! From training I have a bias towards Mossberg, but Remington is a fine scattergun, too.

Here's my Mossy 500a fitted with a knoxx stock and a tlr-1 on the front. Crappy pics via bberry.

The tlr-1 throws a ton of light, plenty enough to i.d. the target and blind 'em too. This shot is my bedroom door looking at the front entrance. The pantry is the only light on in the house, everything else is pitch black.

    If i may

Mossberg 590A1 with a 14" barrel for the win :p

srsly tho...dont put a pistol grip on a mossberg...the safety switch is just flat out in a bad spot for that

    870 v. 500

6 of 1 half dozen of the other really...personal preference...both fine shotguns for the low end price range...

Big 5 Sporting good sells a combo Mossy 500 with an 18" AND a 28" barrel for cheap. Keep in mind if you only have one gun, convertibility is a really good thing- you may decide to hunt animals, rather than whatever you're thinking. After all... how often do you expect to use this on a bad guy? Sheesh...

I'd be looking real hard at the 870 offered earlier in the thread. Changing it to something obnoxious is easy and not expensive.

This is my Modded Mossy. Since the pic was taken I swapped out the Hogue grip/forearm with a Tacstar vert grip. Also replaced the bead sight I lost with a mini tru glo. In case yer wondering why a bead type sight on a pistol grip 12 gauge, because sometimes I shoot it like a pistol:)

Spent a lot of hours polishing everything.

My very first gun was a Mossberg 500. I dont reccomend it. The 590 and 870 are both better. It was reliable and cheap but just has more issues with the magazine tube and it rusted on me pretty bad vs parked shotguns. Give me parked steel over aluminum and blued steel every time.

    My next shotgun? Saiga 12.

Oh I will never own a Saiga, they have such hard time with jamming feed issues and the kick in those things is rediculas.

Be sure to go shoot one before you drop the cash on it.

There is a cheaper model that is just as reliable as a Mossberg 500.

Maverick 88. I got mine new about 8 years ago. Its got an 18.5 barrel, pump, holds 5 in the tube, pistol grip. Even with the side saddle (holds 6), the barrel heat shield and the sling. I still have under $250 in it.

I have no joke, shot probably close to 10k rounds through it. When I go shooting, its at least 100-200 rounds each time. I have cleaned the gun twice. It has never jammed, miss fired or given me an OUNCE of problems. If someone gets the bright idea to break into my house... I will be grabbing it before I even attempt to grab the phone.

The mossberg is a great shotgun. But if you haven't bought one yet... wait for the remington 887 tactical. This is a sweet shotgun, the only issue is finding one right now.
