Just for some anecdotal info...

I used to have a pair of Lightforce 240's on my truck with the clear combo filter. They are great for distance, but that's about all they are good for (IMHO). They are very bright, but most suited for long-range spot lights.

With brand new Osram Rallye's in my truck and the high beams on, except for distance it made the Lightforces pretty much useless. I could barely tell they were on.

Try Sylvania Silverstart ZXE's. Bright as shit! Bought some about 5 months ago and am extremely pleased with them!

 

Won't be any brighter.
The standard H4 is a 55/60w lamp. The old 35w lamps were the sealed beams like in the early 1st Gen and old HiLux. Halogens have always been 55/60w, fogs are 55w. Motorcycle driving lights are only 35w (and they can be a pain to find) and KC offers some 35w H3 lamps for it's housings.

You can get a Wagner 80/100w lamps from NAPA if you're lucky to find one, but I would not run one from the stock circuit. I ran one on my bike before I went HID, and it was pushing the limits of the fuse. Running two on a Tacoma would likely cause problems.

The "4300k" they advertise is achieved with the blue tint on the glass.
Tinted glass = less light passing through. It will actually not be as bright as a standard 55/60w H4. It will appear a bit "whiter" and near-field might look a bit clearer, but the total lumens are reduced by the tint.

I have not had good luck with Silverstars in any vehicle.
My old joke used to be "I buy Silverstars in sets of 4"... I ALWAYS had an extra set in the toolbox.

Silverstars are generally a bad idea. They have a blue coating to make them "whiter". The problem is, that blue coating strips out a lot of the light. They over-drive the filament to get higher light output, which shortens the filament life, but the blue coating strips out enough light that they aren't really any "brighter" than stock bulbs.

The Osrams are safe for car use, though maybe not *strictly* legal. I believe the regulations indicate that the standard 60/55W bulbs are the only legal wattage--though saying nothing of actual light output.

They have the proper lighting pattern, and properly aimed will not be distracting or problematic for other drivers. They retain the original light pattern the same as stock bulbs, just brighter--unlike PNP HID kits. It's one of those issues where it may not be legal by the letter of the law, but meets the intent of the requirement fully. The intent and requirement is that they are safe for both the driver and other drivers on the road. This is of course, with properly aimed headlights.

They came recommended (and shipped from) one of the probably most-mentioned automotive lighting authorities on the internet.

ETA: *Any* "high-performance" bulb that over drives the filament will have less life than an OEM bulb. The more you push a filament, the less time it will last. Ultra-long-life bulbs and the like generally have less output than their OEM-spec counterparts.

 

$33.00 it's not bad at all. gong to give them a try and see what happens (hoping I don't have to re aim my headlights though - if I do maybe having BHLM would work to my advantage (color all the chrome except the main bulb bowl), if it's still too bright, hell just color in the bulb bowl part and see how much of a reflection I get from that).

 

If your headlights are already properly aimed, there's a 99% chance you will not have to re-aim them. Proper bulbs following proper spec will not really change the alignment.

I have accidentally not fully seated the bulbs in these trucks, and had them latched, so just make sure they are properly seated.

You only need to (try to) re-aim when you're installing HID PNP junk. That's not to say they can't go out of alignment over time (vibration, etc), but it's not a result generally of installing proper bulbs.

 

oh, I haven't touched the bulbs or anything (just wiring) since I have purchased the truck. As of now I still have the OE battery I got from the dealership (more than half of the truck is still OE spec'd BUT slowly and surely getting upgraded )

 

I have heard from some that Sylvania Silverstars ZXE go out fast, however, as I mentioned, they have been on my truck for 5 months without any issues. PLUS, there is a 1 year warranty on them. In the event they go out in a year, I won't sweat it. I just look at it as a normal maintainence item (although I do understand that most won't look at it that way)

And whoever, said the ZXE's are not brighter than stock is totally false. It was a night and day difference for me between the stock ones and the ZXE's.

 

Ya... 5 years on the lamps and it's time for a new set.

Battery? I'd be planning a replacement soon. 4-5 years seems to be a good life, and when they go, there is little warning.

How old were your factory bulbs when you replaced them? Halogens degrade output over time (well, so do HIDs, actually).

You're probably seeing a combination of "perceived" increase due to color, and the fact that new bulbs are better than not new bulbs.

The blue-coated bulbs do it for color, because that's what people go crazy over. Their whole marketing is how their color compares to HID, and they say nothing about actual light output.

I can't find any hard data on the actual light output for the bulbs, just Sylvania's marketing on how they're "HID-look" and how great the color is.
