Evening gents. Its been a few years since I've been on here. I had a pre-runner back in 2010 and been driving a VW GTI since then. I'm thinking about going back to a Tacoma, 4x4 this time. If I'm planning on getting a lift and tires, is it worth it to go for the TRD Sport/Off-road, or is it better to just go with the base SR5 and save money up front? Thanks in advance.

Lots of threads on this topic. Best advice is to take a look at toyota a website and see the exact differences between the trucks and see what fits your needs

In a nutshell sr5 is a great truck with average seats

Sport is a sr4 that has a hood skewp, nicer seats, "sport suspension"

Off road is a sr5 that has the nicer seats, reAr, locker a-trac

what do you want to do with it? figure that out then buy the appropriate truck as the base.

I went with the offroad since i wanted the best factory offroad vehicle. I will do a shell, lift and tires then pretty much be done. I will go off road about 15% of the time and use it to pull a pop up camper. I drive in snow in the winter and hot desert in the summer.

Buy what you need or want thinking a little long term.

Test drive the different models and get a feel for them. Personally I think the TRD seats are way more comfortable than non, but some people don't like them. You get the extras of course with the TRD.

I went with the sport I like the fog lights, hood scoop and color keyed bumpers but it would be nice to have the locker.

I think if you are going to do a lot of mods like wheels, shocks and bumpers a base would be fine. If you are doing less mods a sport or off road would be worth it..

SR5 has all that.... Except the bumpers and grill are chrome and it doesn't have that stupid hood scoop... Soooo just the fogs are the same hahaha
I sold my chrome grill and bought a color matched. Get a Sport because that's the only TRD that comes in a long bed. I don't know what the seats are like in the TRD's. I'm curious to go sit in one. If the seats don't make a difference to you save some money and get the SR5.

TRD Off Road comes with a long bed with the access cab. Sport you can get short or long bed with double cab.

Thanks for the replies gents. Local dealer has a DCLB Sport in Blue Ribbon I might go check out. Just need to decide if I want to pull the trigger.

besides the pretty stuff, sport and off-road also have the extra external engine oil and transmission oil coolers which you need for sure! also the sport and i am 99% sure the off-road packages have the hi output alternato, so if you want to run lights or a stereo amp, you will need that also.

in my opinion it is well worth the extra money, was/is for
    me fore sure!

Ask the dealer to take out the OEM floor mats. This should save you $200-$250. You can use that money to buy some Weathertechs.

Base SR5 and do the upgrades you want. I bought a sport and it was a waste of money.
