Not sure where you guys running them live, but if they salt the roads, they're a huge hassle. You either have to keep a spare set just for winter, or wipe them down every time you get home. Even that wasn't enough to keep mine from pitting. I have a feeling that's part of the reason black has become so popular. I have gone to black wheels myself. Not much in the way of weather makes them look any different. And if they get scratches, just grab any black paint and touch them up, good as new.

I’m lucky down here in Florida I don’t have to deal with the pitting as much. I have heard of the Horror stories that you’re talking about. I think the more I look at it maybe I wish I would’ve bought the white letter tires. I’m going to try the oil based sharpie in white and see how they do. My normal commute doesn’t include crazy roads and such so hopefully they’ll stay white for a while.

I really like the Coopers. A friend recommended them and will only run them on his Silverado that he uses for plowing.
I do swap my wheels out because of the salt on the roads every year but I dont mind. I like messing with it and learning what I can and cant do with it. Besides that it gave me the excuse to buy the big torque wrench I have been wanting. As soon as the factory tires wear out I will put Coopers on the factory wheels as well.

If and when they start to pit and look bad I will just buy a new set or live with them.

How did you paint your grill like that? Are the center portions still chrome or are they painted black/grey?

I took the grill off. Roughed it up with sand paper, bought some good primer. Sprayed it out. Painted everything black. Taped off what I wanted Blazing Blue and painted that section with color matched paint. Clear Coated it all and put it back together.

Polished 8 hole rims with raised letter tires are still cool.
    1980s yes
    Timeless yes
Im sorry but they beat the heck out of most of this stuff I see out there today.
It would be interesting to see how old we are that still likes the gasser nats 2017 110.jpg shiny stuff. There is quite a bit of it in my driveway.

I wouldn't change them either, that old school look is unique.

It’s a lot Old School. But they are great! Keep em. Everyone has blacked out wheels. These look nice with the blue. It’s your truck though. Do what makes you happy!

Why is everyone against black wheels? Is it because the OEM wheels are partially black and people wish they were all silver or chrome?

I just got the 4Runner TRD Pro wheels on my blue Tacoma and they look fantastic!

I believe it’s what you grow up gawking at as a kid. If that happened to be chrome with white letters out, then you are drawn to those kind of trucks. If you grew up drooling over black wheels that you can’t destinquish from the surrounding tires then, too bad for you! I’m obviously biased to the classic look.o_O
