I put some really nice wheels and tires on my 2017 Taco (auto start) and work in a cruddy part of town where the truck sits outside. Been thinking about installing an aftermarket alarm with some type of sensor that will alert if the truck is jacked up to remove the wheels. Any suggestions? Anyone use Viper StartSmart, i.e.: $100 a year so I can receive notifications and auto start from anywhere?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

I have a CompuSmart alarm system in my Tacoma. they own viper or vice versa. Great alarm, I can track the truck from anywhere in the world, remote start it and a host of other options. That being said I wouldn't do it again. its another damn fob I have to carry. Although the Tacoma fob arms and disarms it as well, when I think about it. But I like the ability to be able to remote start it from a mile away. Makes a huge difference when the pooch and I are out doing something and we come back to a cool truck versus a sauna. If I had cell recption everywhere I would just go without the fob.

The dealership put a Pursuit alarm in my truck when I bought it. I've had it in valet mode since day 1. I can't use the touch handles to lock and unlock with this alarm, so I'd rather not have it. Not sure if this is useful info, but this is my dilemma.

I have an alarm. I only have it for the insurance discount. I never turn it on.

No one pays attention to car alarms anymore. Everytime I hear one go off, i figure someone is getting their front door kicked in.

I really don't think they do much except give you the option to remote start the truck
