I can't beleive I'm even thinnking about it. I love the 1st gen's for size and looks. But I'm thinking about buying a small travel trailer to do some camping and traveling in and I think the 2nd gen would be a better tow vehicle. Has anyone here considered getting a 2nd gen?

On the other hand I would really hate to let this 1st gen go, its the perfect one (in my opinion). Its a white extended cab TRD 4x4 auto in Arizona without a hint of rust anywhere. Its almost like a new truck with only 37,000 miles on it. It would be hard to find another one like it if decided I made a mistake. Tough decision

Why can't you buy a 2nd gen and keep your old truck? Best of both worlds!

I'm the same way with my other car. It's been sooooo good to me for soooo long it's just worth way too much more than KBB to me personally for me to ever sell it.

I'm not planning on buying a really big trailer. But, I dont want a tent trailer either. I'm guessing it will be around 3000~4000 lbs. I know my truck is rated for more than that but I dont want to be close to the max either. I want to be able to easily tow it across country if needed.

Haven't thought that far ahead yet. But hoping it would go for a premium.

I love 1st gens...in fact I used to own one. I got my truck for the increased power, off road capabilities and room. If yours is paid off, I'd try to sell it privately so you can get the most for it. You can get quite a bit for em out here in AZ. Wranglers and Tacomas retain there value very well out here. My suggestion is to go with the 2nd gen...but on the other hand, there supposed to drop the 3rd gens in 2012 so...

If it was me, I'd keep the first gen. Nothing at all wrong with the second gen, but you have a nice, low mileage rust free truck, probably with no payments. I lost my first gen. to the frame rust. The first gen. can tow a trailer as good as the second gen., but with no monthly payments.

KEEP YOUR FIRST GEN, it will do fine with towing and thats such low mileage for an 8 year old truck.

Buying a 2nd gen just because it can tow a little bit more is a stupid reason to get it, IMO. If you were really worried about towing, go with a fullsize.

you can easily tow that much with your truck. i do it all the time. plus, a 2nd gen can only tow a little bit more than the 1st gen. either keep your 1st gen, or get a tundra. getting a 2nd gen doesnt make a whole lot of sense.
