Thinking about selling my 4 cyl for a 4x4 4 cyl

    Actually lemme rephrase...I KNOW I'm gonna trade in my truck for the 4 cylinder 4x4. The reg cab one (I think thats the only 2nd gen 4x4 4 cylinder?). But anyway, who has one and what size tires came stock with it? Im also very curious to see what kind of gas mileage one would get with this truck because I get 20mpgs with my little 235s on my truck.

    well stock im not quite sure but the tires i had were 245/70?/16. got about 17.8mpg just driving around to school and a little freeway driving as well. Now last night i bought some FJ wheels that came with ATs on them and they fit and i think it looks good! here is a picture

    Yeah that's definitely the truck. MPG is very important to me because I average 100 -150 miles a day for a job I have. But I couldn't imagine the gas mileage being too different. How does it feel power-wise tacokid?

    I'm gonna do it hopefully in the next month or two.

    power wise in the lower gears like first and second its pretty quick. i was really surprised. getting on the freeway is eh... wish i had more power for that. but cruisin from 60-63 is where you're going to get the good gas mileage. the tac is at about 2200-2300rpm so its good. Hauld two dirt bikes fine and goes out in the dunes good as well! i think you'll be pleased :)

    Being able to have 4 wheel drive is the greatest my mpgs are good i can get 400 miles easily on one tank

    I have a reg cab 4x4 and it's great. Tire size is 245/75/16. Average MPG is around 23 for me.

    I bought a 2011 extra cab sr5 4wd 4 cylinder tacoma automatic thinking it would get better gas mileage than the 6-not true! I live in Ohio, and when there was snow on the ground my gas mileage was 12 mpg for the whole winter! Have less than 1500 miles on the truck, and the best has been 18.5 on the highway. Not only that the rear chrome bumper started rusting out the first month through the chrome. Have had at least 6 tacomas, and I am really disappointed in this one.

    Just joined and that is your first post? I would give it a little more time. First, if your "winter blend" gas is as bad as ours, you will lose. Second it isn't even broken in yet. Give it to 5000 miles before you consider mpgs.

    ^That being said, I get around 18.5 in the winter and I am not easy on the flipper. About 20 is normal for me in the summer. The 10% ethanol has killed that some but close. I drive 97 percent of the time in city. On the highway I can get about 25 without cruise. I was able to get 20.1 pulling a pop-up on the highway. My numbers are not based on tankful, but fuel used divided by mileage. I say go for it if you want 4wd. But realize you will prolly lose some as there is added drag both in mechanics and possibly tire width. Where I live the 4wd 4 cyl Taco is my best option.

    Oh and power wise, I think its great for a 4 banger. I would put it in a foot race against my old S-10 4.3l ZR-2 anyday. Wind it out and it goes for a little 4 cyl 4wd. Just always member it is a 4 cyl and payload make a BIG difference.

    possibly. i live in ohio too, and i have 4wd on A LOT.

    when you get a foot of snow on top of ice its necessary haha

    but also, we get really shitty winter mix gas up here i think
    during the summer my avg MPGs are 19, and winter 15. Dont know why.

    I have a v6 4x4 AC though, but still.

    You can also get an Access Cab with the I4. Might be worth it if you want power windows/door locks, and the extra interior space.

    As far as the reg. cab 4x4 the power isn't bad in gears 1-3. It's GREAT in 1st. I'd probably stick to the manual over the automatic if you're concerned about the power. However, the automatic gives you bucket seats and a center console, so it's worth considering. Test drive them both.

    Stock tires are what you see pictured above, 245/75r/16 on steel wheels. I'm getting 18.5 mpg on 95% city driving. Highway is much better. I'd estimate 23 or so is what I'm getting if I keep it around 65.

    265/70/17 2010 Reg cab 4cly 4x4 I'm getting 20-22, I have a light foot seeing as gas is almost $4.00 per gallon.

    Op I did this, 5lug access cab to 4x4 access cab. Miles per gallon went from 24 to 22, approximately. Mixed driving with the 265/75R16s brought that down a bit more.

    Totally happy I did it. I'm supercharging because I need more power with all the crap I put on the truck, but I'm sure a stock regular cab does fine.

    4.56 gears, rear trutrac,DT header, 235/85r16 Duratracs, 2nd filter pulled, inter.wipers, Cruise control, Factory alum. whls/winter tires(2nd set), Afe pro Dry-S , Dumbo eared flaps cut down.
    Stock tire is 245/75r16 .My reg cab gets 24-25mpg... but keep in mind that is NOT on winter blend and our freeway speed is 65 mph. At 75 mph I get about 22.

    Just a thought,what if you modded your 2wd? Or do youwant 4wd and thats the whole point? Reason I say that is I suspect for a given driver ,the 4wd reg cab would get 3 mpg less +/-. You 20 mpg would likely drop with the newer 4wd and spend more of your money getting it.
