Thinking about selling my 4 cyl for a 4x4 4 cyl

    4x4 access 4cyl w/ stock 245/75 tires here atm, 50/50 mix city/hwy
    22+ mpg if easy on throttle
    20 mpg if heavy on it

    I love the regular cab 4x4's with a 5 speed, would make a sweet little wheeler. I say go for it!!

    On a side note, if you can manage to go down from 75 to around 65MPH, maintain your truck properly and go easy on the throttle, you can get almost 24mpg with the v6 4x4...and have more power to play with when you want...but no regular cab v6's (lame). Mine just got 23.6/345 miles and 23.7 in 355miles using shell 91, highway miles.

    I imagine if you went around 65 with the reg cab 4-banger you would get 28-30mpg though.

    I had no clue that there is a 4cyl 4x4 AC...the power features definitely plays a factor now. Anyone know the what kind of price difference I would be looking at between the RC and the AC?

    Thanks everyone for saving me from hours on google like always!

    Just hope that I can get a good amount for my truck when I go to sell it.

    If you get the 4x4 AC and add much in the way of tires or armor, you'll be wanting more power.

    4x4 AC is in the 22-25 range, depending on your negotiation skills.

    Do it!

    Stock is 245/75R16

    I'm running 265/75R16 and it feels fine.

    x2 but I upgraded at 45,000mi to 265's
    Still get about 21 with a fair amount of hammering down.

    OP list price for new I4 4x4's are about 20-21 for the regular cabs (manual trans) and about 25k for the access cabs (manual trans). You could step it up to the V6 4x4 access cab for about a list price of 27k. Of course these are for 2011's and nobody pays list price... But it gives you the idea.

    I have a 2008 Reg cab 4x4.

    I average 17mpg with my 16in aftermarket rims with all season tires. Spectacular in snow and other weather. (I do about 100 miles city and maybe 150 miles highway per week.)
    Plenty of power in the low gears.
    I have the towing brake light wires.
    Stock system is alright too.
    I love the truck and I suffer from the mod bug...

    I picked up my tacoma for 14k with trading in my last car.

    Mine is the sr5 with alloy wheels, daytime driving lights, factory seat covers. 4x4, 4 cylinder, automatic. $27.5k out the door. The truck does not come with the tow pkg.

    I kick myself almost everyday that I wasnt more patient and didnt wait for access cab... Bucket seats, power doors and windows and most importantly extra interior space!

    If you get I4, do NOT get automatic. Even with the manual its not a powerhouse and the auto has one gear less.

    BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    If you're driving in snow or offroading yes get the 4x4. Honestly if you can get away with a 5 lug its lighter and is going to get better fuel economy. I think a 4 cylinder automatic 5 lug would be perfect. Shifting all day long to go nowhere gets a little tiresome.
