2001, clear coat looks like shit, 144k miles, some rust near bedside but frame looks okay...don’t know until I see it in person I guess

kbb says $6500 in fair condition (much lower than what he’s asking). Would you sell your 3G for the 1G? My truck is 6 months from being paid off, and has 55,000 miles, I love it but with trade values so high on the trucks I’m thinkingi could trade it in to Carmax, sit on the cash for another year out two and then buy a new one all while investing in the market for the next year and making a healthy 3- 5% if it stays bullish

Sell it and buy something boring like a old Corolla that uses a qt of oil a week. With the cash keep it in cash, not an investment advisor.

It already looks like part of the body mount on the frame has rotted away.

I wouldn't buy that particular one. However, that truck in my area probably goes for 10-14k all day, so a $6500 offer may be ignored or turned down pretty quick. 1st gen Tacomas don't really abide by book values these days.

Honestly I think you could go either way here, you're 6 months out from not having a payment and retaining the truck, that's a plus but if you need/want cash than ya just buy $1500 corolla and sit on money.

I got 2 old Corollas - 2003 and 2004... since inception neither has burned a drop of oil - and both are still running strong -

it’s definitely an issue. Idk about 03-04, but 98-01 most definitely will burn oil in the higher mileage (150k+?)

I'd hop in either one of mine ( well the kids drive 'em now ) and go from L.A. to N.Y.C. and not think twice,
wouldn't even check the oil levels in either of them... one of my kids is dropping by for a free dinner tonight
I may go out and pop that hood and take a peep for fun.

6 months till pay off You want to sell it and buy some old truck ? That doesn’t make much sense financially .. If it was me I would stick it out six months pay the truck off ..then save after it’s payed off and later down the rode if you want to sell it you have a truck that has a higher value than that old truck and you will have cash to add to the deal if you decide to buy a newer one.

No. Sell it, not trade. And get other quotes, like Carvana and others.

Sitting on cash and investing in the market are not the same.

And the market is rarely the place for short term investing. Better than Vegas with some picks, but no guarantees.

Yeah, I mean it was never bad or to the point where it was putting me in the poor house, but it’s definitely a documented issue. I’ll take adding a quart every 10,000 over dropping $20k+ on a new Corolla though

Buy some new parts for your truck so you keep loving it. The market is volatile, hard to justify that, especially knowing you will put money into that first gen. You do you though, if you have to ask for someone else's opinion, it might be the wrong move though. My 2cents

that body mount does indeed look rotten...

So I advise you to take a good look at the frame when you go see it in person , especially on the inner side right behind the cab where the leaf springs attach to the frame, by the catalytic converter and the gas tank, then on the outer side near the shock mounts under the bed. These are usually the first areas to rust through on 1st gens

better to keep your 3rd gen with a good frame than exchange for a 1st gen with a rotten or patched up frame...
plus your truck is almost paid off and doing a frame job on the 1st gen is going to cost you time and money. Better to keep that money for the payments on the 3rd gen instead
