Jerry Fudd came a-knockin on a friend's door, emaciated and deathly. They have cats and dogs, and couldn't help him. We live rurally, so shelters don't exist.
A few months previous, we had put down the second of our sick 20 yr old cats, and now rabbits, squirrels and mice were having a "field" day.
I told the wife to go get him. Named him after a friend who recently died, same colour hair as the cat. Last name is obvious...

no i did not get the cat, unfortunately he/she passed 2 days after i made this thread. however i do want one in the future, im not going to go hunting for one but if one or two need a good home ill be more than willing to take them in

my wife's cat is 18 years old and is a mega bitch. Only a companion when she wants to, doesn't like the dog or the other cat and just glares at everyone. She also won't shit where the other cat does, and since other cat uses both litter boxes Old McBitch poops on my basement floor.

Summary: No, don't.

Our neighbors had an outdoor cat and I didn't mind one bit. It hung around our yard catching mice, he would let anyone pet him and best of all I didn't have to take care of him! Unfortunately he took off after less than a year. We have had our indoor cat for about 4 years now and she is easy to take care of, but I hate having the litter box inside. She was the first pet my wife and I got but since then we added 2 dogs to our family and they are much more loving animals.
