Not sure where this post should be so if it needs to be moved then someone move it. Me and the family are thinking about moving and not sure where to go. Always thought about the Smokey Mountains in TN. but have recently considered moving out west, maybe Arizona or Utah. Seems to be a lot of tacomas in that area. Can anyone give me some info on certain areas as in cost of living, jobs, schools, etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

Up in the air, big a$$ tires.
I would not come out here to Colorado unless you have a job waiting for you. Otherwise, good luck finding one. Houses can be snatched up for a pretty good price with all of the foreclosures. As far as the cost of living goes, not too bad. Gas is $2.39 for regular right now. If you are wanting to play around up in the mountains (hiking, mountain biking, and camping are free once you buy all of the gear)get ready to buy a lot of gas, and pay a lot more than down here in town.

yeah Colorado is def. a consideration. We used to go there once a year to play golf and I've got a few connections there. Would love to be around Grand Junction.

You're going to move but don't know where? Are you retired? I find this to be strange... anyhoo...

    Couple of things:

    1. If you move to AZ, go to Flagstaff or Prescott... The southern portion of that state is RIDICULOUS.

    2. Texas is #1 :D

    3. California is an overpopulated shithole... especially southern california... plus cost of living is stupid out there...

    4. Utah is nice but can get quite pricey in some areas (SLC).

Above anything else, I wouldn't move to where I perceived an "Active tacoma community" was... I'd go where it was best for my family...

Washington State ain't necessarily the greatest.
Home prices are on the upper end, especially compared to someplace like Alabama. But on the good side is they are down 15- 25% due to the weak job markets. Unemployment is around 9+ percent. Sales taxes around 10% suck. Property taxes no better. The states highway system is a joke. One road in and one road out. School system ranks somewhere are 46th in the nation. They don't invest in education.
On the plus side, still a beautiful place. Lots of nice green trees. Snow in the Olympics and Cascades. Rains 8+ months out of the year. Temperatures rarely over 80 degrees or under 30 degrees.
Last. If you have a job and can keep it, things are ok for now.

Not retired just ready for a change. I'm a golf pro at a course close to the beach and golf is everywhere so jobs shouldn't be too much of a problem (knock on wood)

Lots of golf courses. Plenty of sunshine to play golf. Home prices, way way down. Good cheap food (at the casino's). Everybody has a tan.

I posted a linky up above. Tons of good courses here. Several pros call this area home. Iron Horse, The National, Tiffany Greens, Loch Lloyd, etc.

Cold sucks and winters here are awesome. When you miss the snow, go for a weekend up to Flagstaff, it's only a two or three hour drive. There is so much to do here on weekends and close places to vacation. Vegas, LA, and San Diego are only like 6 hours by car and 1.5 hours by plane. In state there is Sedona (gorgeous), Flagstaff, a ton of mountains, off roading spots, hiking (tons of fun and great exercise), camping, awesome huge lakes to boat, and great nightlife just to scratch the surface.

Pick something you like to do and we have it. I have tried so many new things since I moved here from Minnesota and have discovered new hobbies. When I was considering where to move I visited Vegas a couple of times and interviewed for a job there, but in the end it didn't feel like a place I wanted to raise a family. I moved here instead and I love it.

(last week the highs were in the mid 70's)

What's wrong with southern AZ? I fail to say any issues with it. Phoenix is about as good as it gets in the job market right now, it's a very well built city with everything you could possibly need, tons of stuff with a short drive out (lakes, wheel'n, mountains, camping, hiking, ect). You're close enough to cali to be able to hit up disneyland, six flags, beach, ect without having to live there.... I dunno I fail to see the negative, unless you just flat out hate deserts and heat (in which case, it shouldn't even be a consideration). Personally, I love the desert and heat so it's all about what you like.

Also, AZ is lol @ natural disasters. Worst we get is monsoon storms... which compared to most places is nothing.

TN has one of the lowest costs of living in the country. Nice people and land.

lived in Tucson for 5 years... had to get out... crime in Tucson is awful...

It's hot. 10 months of summer, 1 month of fall, 1 month of spring

Phoenix is a concrete jungle... miles and miles of concrete surrounded by miles and miles of brown. Very ugly IMHO.

    :D

I have nothing against arizona... which is why I recommend Flag  I just think Southern AZ is blah...
