Hey guys, new to the forum. I'm thinking of buying 97 Tacoma from my co-worker. It has 128k on in it, and he is asking $5,000. V-6 4X4. It has a cap with tule bars, and leaf spring upgrades. It seems to be in good condition otherwise. I have been on a trip in in, but have not driven it yet. Is this a good deal? Thanks in advance-

Is it an early or late model 97?

There was a head gasket recall for early 97's with the 3.4L engine

I don't know if it is an early or late model. I'll ask. I'll also ask if the head gasket was replaced.

    Check the frame.

There's an extended warrantee on the frames. They rust from the inside out.

Before buying it, I would have it inspected by a dealer. They'll determine if it passes or fails.

I have a 97 and I love it, is this one reg or ext cab? I would pay 5 for another one if I needed one. Mine is all taken apart for a repaint and I hate not driving it. I have been driving my 09 Z71 every day, (that I use for work) and it sucks, it just makes me miss my taco more and more everyday.

It's an extended cab. 5 speed, I didn't say that before either. My ex girlfriend had a 96 4 cyl. I loved that truck-

I would get that truck. Low miles for the year. I bought my 95 about a year ago with 112K on it and couldnt be happier.

I had a 97 ex cab, V-6 5 speed. Very reliable truck. I'd still be driving it if the frame didn't rust. Like everyone else said, be sure to take it to a dealer and get the frame inspected before you decide. If the frame is good, you won't be sorry.
