Well the whole diesel idea was a thought. I read somewhere it was coming to America in 2010, but the design is skewed and not the same cosmetically... Oh well.

honestly, you are better off buying new. with the 0% financing option its wayyy worth it. Also, dealerships will jerk you off, they dont care if you are 5 minutes or 7 days away, they will do whatever they can to get you in their store to rip your head off. Trust me i know, i used to be a salesman at a ford dealership... Do whatever you can to avoid this trip, and find a local taco, or buy new

You have to be willing to wait the dealers out. Buy- at the end of the month. Dont act DESPERATE or they will put it to you and be willing to walk away. Try and sell your truck out right-cash can be a good bargining tool in this economy-but dont let them know how much cash you have to soon. I paid 23,500. June 30, Dble cab,4x4, base model

basically, if you drive 7 hrs, theyve got you, because you arent going to want to drive back empty handed and they know that, they will use this to squeeze you, and at the very leaste make your life hell

This is what you should pay: An 09 access cab v6 2wd is not $30k, try $22k-$23k. 09 access cab I4 2wd is around 20k-21k. A DC 2wd v6 is $25k. 09 4x4 DC would be in the $28k-$33k range. As for access cab I4 it only comes in 2wd SR5 package, unless you get the X-Runner(X-Runner guys chime in, X-Runner only comes with V6 correct?).

Correct you always want to use www.edmunds.com & carsdirect.com

Great point above"Go to the bank or credit union"

I paid $23k in 05 for my 05 DC 2wd, OTD price. Sticker was $29k with the ad-ons, 20" wheels.

    Well...

I have found a relatively local dealership that's got what I am looking for ('09 Tacoma Access Cab in the color I want and the 4 cylinder SR5). I saw an ad in other states for this exact setup for $18,800 (no joke, brand new) so maybe I can use that as a bargaining point. I just didn't want to spend that much though, to be honest. Plus, it's not the PreRunner which is higher but I guess I could get a lift kit. In all honesty, I only wanted to finance about $5-$6k after my trade-in. I don't think I could come close to that with the brand new '09er...

I'm really digging the '05 that I saw in a different state though... If I drove seven hours and had to walk away, well, I would be prepared to do that, to be honest with you. If I didn't come back with anything I'd look at it as a road trip is all. Yeah, it would suck, but hey, worse things could have happened. That's kind of why I would have liked to get the price nailed down before hand, giving him pictures of my truck, etc. I would also be prepared to hire a mechanic (I see them on CraigsList in the area I would buy the truck at) to do an independant inspection to check for faults, etc. Oh well...

FWIW I bought my 06 TRD Access cab back in March with 8700 miles on it for $20,500. Quite a steal at the time. I was thinking of trading it and a dealer wanted to give me 16K for it, with 22,000 miles.

No way, I think the values still reflect the high gas prices we had back in the summer.

I just bought a left-over 2008 PreRunner DoubleCab, (total stipper, no options at all) for $18,500 plus tax.

Don't be fooled. The 0% interest thing through Toyota is a joke! It's only 0% for 36 months. It's 1.9% for 48 months and 2.9% for 60 months. I don't know about most of you guys but you'd have to put down some SERIOUS down money to have affordable monthly payments (unless you consider $500-600/mo. reasonable). The 1.9 and 2.9 deals are still pretty good, but like I said in my previous e-mail if you figure out what it costs you over the life of the loan a used Taco for $3,000-5,000 less than new will still be cheaper (even at a higher rate like 5.9%). I'm not trying to knock buying new but it's hard to make a case for it being a better financial deal.

Payments aren't going to be $500-$600 a month with 2.9% for 60 months. Especially since he is putting so much down. I financed $23,000 for 60 months @ 4.7%(I think or it was 4.5%) & my payments were only $420 a month.

Correct. I was referring to the payments at 36 months. I should have been more clear.

For me, the joke was that after multiplying the 36 months x my payments after my approximate 2/3rds downpayment, the total is actually less than what i borrowed.

Unfortuantely, i only wanted to borrow about 5-6 grand but they wouldn't do a loan for less than the $10,000 i finally agreed to.

    Yes Sir it can be.
    2005+ SR5 is a package. I have the SR5 PreRunner.

PreRunner is the look of a 4x4 without the 4wheel drive mechanisms. 2wd PreRunner comes in different packages; SR5,TRD,TRD Sport

I'm guessing everyone here knows that Toyota has a diesel truck (they still call it a Hilux) in almost every country they do business in except the US. So...it's not a new vehicle that will be prone to problems as one poster suggested. Even GM is coming out with a small diesel engine in later '09 or 2010.
