I bought your old truck for pennies on the dollar and repaired it in my driveway for a couple of hundred bucks using a piece of frame from a Taco with front end damage. It took about six hours because I had to remove the bed to do it right.

I'll look forward to buying your present truck when the insurance company totals it after the next owner finds the damage you did intentionally, making the hitch unsafe. It will be interesting if the police or a lawyer becomes involved because of you cutting your frame to save yourself from frame damage.

A man once insured cigars for $10,000, then smoked them. He filed a claim but the insurance company referred the case to police for felony arson.

Wow this stuff really does happen on Fridays. Hope the OP isn't planning on towing anything. First time he brakes the frame will fold. If it doesn't already from the tongue weight.
@TexasWhiteIce Please post pictures after you finished cutting. Pictures or it never happened.

    Work in progress...
I got ran into, rear ended, twice in 3 days a couple of months ago. One of my buddies said "your gonna have to be more careful." I told him "I guess I'll start putting out traffic cones when I am stopping at the red light. Before that, last time I was was in an accident, rear ended while stopped at a red light by a drunk driver, was about 24 years ago.

Hmmm, I'm getting the sense there are mixed feelings about this. Thought I'd have more support.

But let me put some of you at ease: I probably won't ever tow, so there is no worry about issues with a trailer being a problem. And I won't ever sell my truck as its my forever truck, so there's no chance of me being liable to a buyer.

So with those 2 concerns addressed, an alternative that I thought about today was to just cut one side. That way only 1 side will be totaled if ever rear ended, then by definition, the frame cannot ever be totaled. I may take that approach. Cut one side this weekend, and then maybe after a year or so if it works, do the other side. That way I won't be all in all at once.

Line up a good lawyer. When the weight of the bumper alone breaks the remaining member strength and falls off mid-travel the person following you someone will certainly take issue ... legal issue ... with you. Just accept that crumple zones are designed to collapse AROUND you for your benefit, and when they do it is a good thing.

Makes zero sense, but it's your truck so hack away. Might as well make a bunch of relief cuts along both sides of the frame just in case while you're at it.

Preemptively bend the frame upward so that when you are rear ended and the frame bends down, it will simply be returning to factory orientation
