Nearly impossible for me to get it due to location/limited time off from work

I think I am going to go the ovtune route to be honest. I love the size of the truck, just not the way it drives

This is true, except ... well they are not exactly the same.

Definitely try the "free" one first though.

If OP is thinking of getting OVT he needs the Tactrix cable anyway. Then just get techstream and the right .CUW.. easy!

Eh? First, make up your mind about what size truck you need. Seems like you’re looking to go full-size. If so, just make the jump.

I could probably use a full-size maybe once every other year. I’ll just rent one if needed and be in a truck I like driving for the majority of road time.

It's not really a size issue either. It's all a I drive a lot want something that doesn't require so much throttle input to drive since it's either wide open or nothing.

    None yet.
So you can just buy the cable and do the TSB yourself? Dealer that exported my truck to Japan (I'm still waiting on it) said it wasn't valid because of my trucks build date (wouldn't confirm it was done though) so I'm a bit worried Im going to end up with the stumble condition with no dealer in Japan willing to flash my ECU...

If your VIN range is listed on the TSB, it’ll work.

If you used to tow with a full size truck you probably won't be happy with the Tacoma. i took one road trip with a 4,000 lb. camper and was at the dealer 1st day back trading in my 2018 limited with 1300 miles for a trunda.

Have you had TSB 0062-18 or 0058-18 done? If not get it done and then decide. For me and several others, it's a night/day difference. It's how the truck should have been from day 1!

I have no problem with my access cab v6. Great mileage. Why not wait a few months and take a look at the new Ford RANGER, rather than upsizing to the Tundra if you dont need a fullsize and like the mpg of the Taco.

The dealership gave me the run around when I told them what the transmission was doing. Stuttering. Hunting for gears at 40-50mph

Have you considered a Chevy Colorado - particularly the diesel version?

Yes, I have actually. Dealers up here said they won't order them any time soon since "The cold gets to them" BS

Do 2018 Tacomas need the TSB, or has it been addressed with the current year?

I picked mine up a few weeks ago and while it is definitely sluggish in low RPMs, full throttle isn't terrible...but I expected that with a naturally aspirated V6 that is designed for "decent" fuel economy.

no generalizations on this, you'll need to check your ECU version to know.
