I recently bought a 2004 dbl cab silver v6 4x4 and I was thinking of having it painted.
It has no rust but the paint is dull and it has a few door dings and some rock chips.

I have had damaged cars and trucks painted before but never just paint for the sake of having it shiny again.

Does anyone know what this would cost about ?
It is silver now and I want it to stay silver

I would try rubbing it out with a good 3M compound and then polishing before pulling the trigger on an expensive paint job.
I recently bought a Harbor Freight Polisher for $50 with the intention to do the same as my paint is probably in similar condition as yours.

The quality of the finished product is directly proportional to your budget. I haven't priced paint jobs recently, but it wouldn't surprise me if it cost $3000 for something equivalent to the factory finish.

Most shops offer several levels of painting ,- with prices to match. And it's generally true you get what you pay for. With that in mind, shop around at several shops and get quotes on pricing. I found prices ranging from $1,500 to $6,000. Just make sure everything is included, i.e. body work, cut & polish etc. I've heard silver can be more tricky to paint, but I'm no expert, maybe someone can confirm that.

My access cab was $1850 for the 2 stage (I think that's what it's called for base + clear coat) incl tax. I have a couple small dings but didn't bother getting them fixed. Don't have the paperwork handy and don't recall the particulars on the warranty.

    Edit : at Maaco

I had a quote a couple years ago at a reputable shop. For paint and some dent repairs it was around 3500$. Not worth it on an 18 year old truck imo.

Maybe just get a wrap to protect the original paint as long as you can.

    Maybe voodoo blue? :p

I got a couple of quotes for a wrap on my old Xterra and the cheapest I could find was $3k for a simple, non-metallic boring wrap. Paint can be much cheaper

I was thinking - my pickup is old - has hail damage - I'll just do it myself! lol I have also thought about this but then this comes up "maybe I should buy a supercharger set-up instead. hmmm... I have many an indecisive moment with my pickup. Gets constant eye rolls from the wifey. lol

I'm probably gonna respray it this winter, paint is definitely starting to fade after 3 or so years. Thankfully I only need to lay down a cosmetic coat, since there is enough of a "base". One gallon oughta do it.

He's going to be looking at thousands of dollars.

In terms of wraps, dip and bed liner jobs just say NO. I rather have faded paint vs. that nonsense.

Oh I see, plastidip is for meth heads with AIDs. Got it.

Nice try hiding your profile. Guess it's all those high IQ posts you don't want people seeing.
