Nice find, looks to be in pretty good shape for the east coast! In regards to spacer lifts, you definitely want to steer clear, as it adds length to the factory geometry, which creates additional stress on CV's, ball joints and bushings. Can't go wrong with the 5100's. Eibach also offers a 2.5" lift kit of 2 front springs and 4 shocks. This does put you a little out of your budget for the rough country, but using the front lift spring keeps you from having to preload the factory spring and improves ride quality and retains bump travel. That being said, they use a height adjustable spring clip system if you want to keep the factory springs instead. The rear shocks can accommodate an AAL, block or shackle no problem. Liftetime warranty on springs and shocks as well.

I think everyone on this thread would agree. That's a proper solution if it fits the budget.

I'll just throw out another option.

OME 881/882 coil springs in front with OME nitrocharger shocks.

OME dakkar leaf springs with OME nitrocharger shocks in the rear.

    Aftermarket UCA's soon after that.

Don't skimp on a proper lift.

2.5 or a tad more with the .25 top hat spacer.
Rides stiff in the rear without a load because I also have the dakkar extra leaf. But when it's loaded down, it rides super nice.

The entire kit was maybe $1200 without my TC uca's. But the 1st lift before this one, I ran stock shocks and stock uca's for well over 2 yrs with no issues, although not really suggested.

Kit says 1.75 of lift. I guarantee it's over 2inches. Even with bumper, winch and skids.

Get a COILOVER kit, this will really help out in the long run if you every upgrade front bumpers or winch, also ride quality as well

I think that's a good solution. What's the price on it? I think the only thing is doesn't (appear to) come with is a rear brake line extension.

But depending on the price, you may end up finding it worth it to spend a couple hundred more and getting the OME kit listed above. You get ALL new springs, shocks, etc... I think it even comes with a brake line extension (but not a diff drop kit, iirc, which are like $30).

If you are running on the original springs, we can safely assume they are worn out. Adding an add-a-leaf to worn out springs is, well, not ideal and really just a band-aid fix. The new springs are designed to handle the correct weight and have the lift you need (want) without making the leafs unnecessarily stiff (using the add-a-leaf).

Technically, ANY "kit" you get for the 6 lug Tacomas are coilovers. These trucks come stock with coilovers.

I assume you mean higher end adjustable coilovers, Fox, King and the like... Those are great, but it still doesn't negate the need for stiffer weight springs if you add a bumper, winch, etc...

I have Kings, and I just added a plate bumper and winch, and while I *can* just crank up my coilovers, this isn't really any different from adjusting a set of 5100s by moving the clip up. It works in a pinch.

Ideally, you should still get the proper spring rate coil for your application, no matter what shocks you have.

Matic is correct dont waste your money on cheap shit. Think seriously on what you are going to do with the truck. If you put a winch and a bumper on the fron, going to need hd coils. Draws and a rack a tent or spare tire carrier with a 285/70r17 mt on the back, going need hd springs. Buy a good lift in the beginning and you dont have to spend more money later on. Ome is great im running 096r springs with hd coils in the front rides like a caddy

This is great to see and IMO 100% accurate. There is a major price delta between a 2" shock spring combo and a 2.5" full coilover setup. I've also used both and without long travel or a ton of extra weight, I believe the 2" monotube shocks are far more capable than people give them credit for.

There's definitely a crowd of "buy the most expensive external reservoir shocks you can afford." I guess because you can. When likely 90% of drivers out there (especially the broverlander crowd) likely wouldn't come close to maxing out the performance of a 5100, let alone a $1500 ICON coilver.

Normally I agree with the "but once cry once" mantra. However, here was my situation: I needed some new shocks for my DD, and being married, I don't exactly have an unlimited toy fund to pull from. So, I got a set of 5100s and some shackles for the rear - keeping my stock (worn out) coils, I "lifted" it with the shackles and the middle clip of the 5100s (essentially bring it back to stock height, lol). Total was ~$400. I always planned on (i.e. dreamed of) some nicer coilovers later on, but I simply could not justify the ~$2000 for coils, UCAs, etc... for my DD with mild weekend-warrior type offroading.

Now, fast forward to a time where it's not a daily driver, and I had saved up the cash for some pretty blue coilovers.

I don't regret for a minute spending the ~$400 6 or so years ago on the 5100s. I'm still rocking the rear 5100s actually, lol...
