Well first I would find out what the back spacing is on your wheels. That will give you a idea if you need spacers and if so how big. There is a thread in here called wheels, wheels, wheels I believe that gives all the specs for a bunch of different yota wheels. Like I said I think you need at least 4.25" to clear the uca. With my spacers it puts me at 3.75". I went a little wider just because I like the look.

So spacers something you don't want to cheap out on for obvious reasons. You can find cheap ones for around 60$ a pair. But the only ones most guys and I recommend are either spidertrax or bora. They run around a 100$ a pair. You also want the spacers to be hub centric so you dont have issues. Which bora and spidertrax spacers are.other option would be to buy new wheels with the correct backspacing...this is the ideal method.

Oh. Didn't think they'd be so expensive. In that case I might as well do the latter.

With a 3" lift the biggest you can fit with really no issues with would be 265/75/16

is there any chance your 1999 would need different spacing (for the same wheels/tires) than a 2001 despite them being the same generation? I know they're slightly different.

what is the name of those 2nd gen wheels? I always liked those 69461 oem I think?

Not totally certain on your first question cause you a pre-runner as well. I am still learning some of this stuff myself. But the wheels are 2nd Gen offroad wheels.

Well, Spidertrax only offers 1.25" wheel spacers, anyway. and @frizzman said I'd get away with about 1".

he might know what the back spacing is for those wheels. But that's the number you need to know like i mentioned to know how big a spacer you need. Bora spacers are custom made and they make whatever size you need.

Cool. I learned a lot in a little amount of time. I'll find out tomorrow what my backspacing is....then I should have all the information I need.

ya it's about 4.5 to 4 5/8" depending on who you ask. that's for the stock alum wheels you have.

BORA makes spacers in most any size for about the same price as Spidertrax. seen them on Amazon for $190 for 4 for the 1".

the 265/75-16 will work without issues (maybe slight rub at full turn) but the 285/75 adds the width and a little height factor that using stock wheels would need the spacers, up front at least, the rear should be fine but up to you if you want the stance to match

285/75 is an 11.5" wide tire. Thats what im running on factory rims. It did ever so slightly rub uca before alignment.

Think about how a spacer works. It just moves the range of travel down 3" with factory strut. The factory suspension doesnt have another 3" of downtravel so it will overextend and wear out components faster. Also the shock will now bottom out before hitting the bump stops causing a rough ride and possible damage to shock. This together gives you a worse ride, less overall travel, and will wear out your front end components faster.

Looks like I'm going with the following:

    -3" lift w/ Blistein 5100 shocks
    -Grabber AT2 tires 285/75/16
-1.25" spacers (either Spidertrax or Bora) front and rear

The real challenge is finding somebody who can install the lift kit as I am stationed in Germany.
