Hey y'all, i'm looking for advice on the possibility of me moving to Virginia

My idea right now is to find a acre or so of land and put a little camper trailer on it, and i'm looking at land around ruckersville, or on the south side of madison, or the north side of Charlottesville.

How's the cost of living, land and job availability?

I'm looking into moving back there next year, earliest would be august or september.

I have family back there (in Charlottesville and madison), and i could stay with them for a week or so while i get everything sorted out.

I do have 4 friends that could give me at least part time jobs if they need help, so job availability won't be a real big issue (i hope).

Alaska is neat, and i really liked it when i was up there, but it doesn't have the same feel that VA or MS. have.

You could always move to "WESTERN" Virginia as some people call it. Pretty much the same, but I honestly love it here. Cost of living isn't too bad here either. Scenery is amazing.

west virginia is sort of far from family, and my current job opportunities, but i wouldn't mind retiring in the mountains of west virginia.

I wouldn't do it. Virginia is politically shifting to a much more nanny state governing body. It's only a matter of time before we have emissions laws, closure of OHV trails, and I won't even start on the gun control we can expect in 8-10 years.

If I wasn't involved with a century old family business, I'd be looking to move to Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho.

My parents live in Harrisonburg..... I lived there for 5 years when I was a lot younger. My parents love it there. They're retired.

    It all depends on YOU....

I never thought to stay in Virginia (Harrisonburg anyway) was because its just 'too country' and / or 'too laid back' for me. Hard to explain...... and maybe it was the people I was exposed to / worked with / on a regular basis that gave that impression. Almost like....."There's gotta be more to life than this" kinda feeling.
Lack of 'things to do'....'places to go'...... and at the time, there weren't really any potential places to apply for work in my career field that would allow for much growth/promotion opportunities.

I believe that can be stopped.
The emissions, would they likely be different per county (like arizona) or blanket (like Cali)?

I don't think i've been to harrisonburg, but it sounds nice, I really like the laid-back way of life, i don't really care for going places, i'd rather be in a deer stand all day than go to a mall.

Hmm, that doesn't sound good, although i'm looking at auto tech/auto body tech careers rather than a white collar or wally world job.

Any idea on the cost of land per acre?

    Thank y'all for the info
