so im thinking of purchasing a rolled 2006 tacoma i saw on CL... I sent the guy an email and will call tom to get the details of cost but it looks to have damage on almost all sides and am wondering if this is worth it if i can get it cheap enough. Plz tell me if u would buy it and how much u think i should negotiate for?

This is what his ad says:
parting out tacoma sr5 4x4 pre-runner truck rolled plenty of parts runs an drives, clean title, seats, motor v6 30k miles,, auto trans, wheels tires compelet front end,, call mike 214-729-4005

Yikes... do not want. I might take parts from the interior but wouldn't want to take it as is for my daily driver. However, are you looking at it for off-road use? That might be worth checking into if it's really cheap, although the "4x4 Pre-runner" statement is mutually exclusive and needs to be clarified before any price can be set. If I see the pic clearly enough it appears to have Pre-runner badging on it.

ya i plan to use it for offroad and maybe some DD if its fixable... I have a 2002 4runner 2w with a 3" lift that is my DD but figured if i could pick this up for cheap and fix it up for less then a used tacoma then itll be worth it to have a truck and a 4x4.

It depends on what you want to do with it: if you want to restore it-it better be real cheap; if you are using it as a base for an offroader go for it!

It looks like it did 1 rotation... check axles, LCA, UCA, etc and where those mount to the frame, leafspring mounts etc for damage, bending/breakage. There is a real good chance everything but the body is fine too. Spend a good hour going over it.

If the price is right and you know what you're doing I'd say go for it. At 30kmi alot of those parts are essentially new.

Also true on the "4x4 Prerunner", Prerunners are 2x so look into that.

Part out everything you can and go straight axle on it. Go fiberglass fenders etc. You could have alot of fun with building that one depending on the base cost and only have to 'restore' the doors.

SAS is a little out of my price range right now but would be a great to have once i get my degree and make some real money... Im thinking of fixing wat i can then replacing the rest and possibly paint it black. IM not a huge fan of white bc my mom and dad and sister all have white toyotas (2009 tacoma, 2006 sequoia, and 2000 camry)

I hear ya. If only I had time, space, and loot... there would be a sweet SAS'd flat bed double cab in my sig.

I'd have to disagree with the black paint, it doesn't hide that NVpinstriping as well, but you're not in NV so no worries.

Buy it if it has a good engine block and frame and if it is a good price. Check for cracks in the block or bends in the frame. Worthless if it has either of these. Otherwise you can find the doors, hood, bed and other parts from a local junk yard, piece it together slowly and then get it all painted up. Figure $100-$200 per door and main body section. A full bed should be $500 if found in junk yard or used might be $1000. Your looking at probably $5,000 to get it back to good condition depending on the engine, stearing and driveline components. If purchased cheep enough you should have a good deal. Figure that the person parting it out had insurance and purchased the truck back from the insurance for around $5,000. Keep that in mind when you haggle.

And he claims it "runs and drives", take it for spin and have a buddy follow you; see if the rear tracks with the front, if it looks like the rear is swayed off to one side it could be anything from a cheap broken shackle to a bent frame. See how many of the sensors are freaking out on the gauge cluster too.

Keep it updated on here, lots of folks will have good input to help your decision, pictures are king.

    What kind of a title?
Probably going to have a salvage title and that isn't a plus!

says clean title in the ad description but even if its a salvaged title i think i could live with that. My sister's camry has a salvaged title and she has no probs with anything ...

I know it says "clean title" but if it does have anything like a salvage title attached to it, resale suffers!
Future sales or trades to a dealer suffer.
It'll show up on Carfax and that's never a plus.

Some states will give you a clear titles after you fix it up. In reality it's totaled. I thought about the same idea of getting a totaled tacoma and just swaping in and out my parts with a 4x4.

Thats beyond the 'tipping point' if you ask me. I'm sure he would be thrilled if you took it off of his hands. It would be like Christmas all over again, for him.

Bottom line, i would advise against it.
